Guest guest
People may want to be careful about online activism with their real names. Has anyone been following the " Previous insurance rescission " stories - telling how many insurance companies are now compiling lists of admittedly sick people and subscribing to databases to identify the real names of people who use public online illness support sites and mailing lists, so they can be excused from insuring careless people who don't divulge any pre-existing conditions on applications for insurance? This " Previous insurance rescission " is RETROACTIVE. People have to then pay back money their healthcare providers have received for their care! In many cases they have used huge commercial databases to correlate names, browser cookie data and the like, (this is used to send each browser targeted ads) and email addresses - (people have much less privacy online than they think they do - especially when people are being paid to ferret this information out, and are even paid bonuses based on how many they drop) The insurance companies goal is reimbursement, and getting unprofitable sick people off of their insurance rolls. Personally, I think this is behavior that crosses a line. Sick people cannot afford to repay these companies for the money their doctors have already received. They are often at their wits end trying to pay current medical expenses. According to what I have read, the unlucky people who overlooked something in the application don't just lose their health insurance, they have to repay the benefits, which can be a LOT of money, if it turns out they didn't mention something when they applied for their individual insurance. (which is extremely expensive to boot.) I am pretty sure that they don't get a refund of the premiums they paid, either. They also have been sending letters to doctors asking them to be their eyes and ears. Many doctors were outraged by this. This is one of the ways the system NEEDS to be changed. As long as we have to depend on private insurers, which looks like it may be a long time longer, and as long as all people are forced to 'apply' for health insurance, which means that as long as the for profit insurers can pick and choose and change and determine costs for people by their health status, and not simply by their age, the financial incentive will remain that drives these attempts to try to dump people. They are for-profit businesses, and so they logically, want to only insure the profitable healthy people and both the bad apples and good attempt to deny coverage, even the very expensive individual, non-group coverage, to those who actually need it. That is how private insurance works. No candidate is going to ask them to lose money on people they insure, no matter how much 'hope' they inspire in people, mandated universal insurance that covers everybody of each age group, not just children, at the same price, is the only way around these issues. We also need affordable insurance coverage now, as soon as possible, not years in the future. Guest guest
Thanks! I just signed it and sent it to my friend in Chicago. Might be good idea to reintroduce it every month for new members like me! --- tigerpaw2c <tigerpaw2c@...> wrote: > This petition has been in our files for sometime > now, hopefully many > have signed it already.... > > KC > > > > > > > http://www.petitiononline.com/canaries/petition.html > > > > I found this petition on line. Guest guest
I think most of us would be turned down anyway with all our sick records and history at least people that have been sick for so long unless, you get it from job or spouse's job. I heard just one yeast infection and a girl had to pay back her insurance and was dropped. I keep writing congress etc. all the time. > > People may want to be careful about online activism with their real names. > > Has anyone been following the " Previous insurance rescission " stories > - telling how many insurance companies are now compiling lists of > admittedly sick people and subscribing to databases to identify the > real names of people who use public online illness support sites and > mailing lists, so they can be excused from insuring careless people > who don't divulge any pre-existing conditions on applications for
