Hi Joy,

Sorry you're not feeling as good as you were the other day. Thanks a lot for all the articles you sent me in your e-mails. I'd appreciate it if you could send me the article on candida that you previously mentioned to my private e-mail.

I just got my sputum culture identification back which mentions that a scant growth of aspergillus fumigatus grew. Have you ever had this before? This is my third time that my culture has grown this and yet my doctor doesn't seem to worried about this. I suppose it's because everyone has fungus growing in them and sometimes there are contaminants in the cultures.

Anyway, I was trying to find the article on fungemia and s. boulardii (SB FlorActiv) but couldn't find the exact article (I will continue looking for it and send it to you if I find it). However, I did find the below article which does mention s. boulardii causing fungemia in more severely immune-compromised individuals:

https://www.freece.com/freece/Article_Dynamic.asp?dbArticleID=97 & dbRegID The use of Saccharomyces boulardii has generally been without problems, but occasional cases of fungemia have been reported. All patients who developed fungemia had been hospitalized with multiple conditions and illnesses, and often had a history of surgery or broad-spectrum antibiotic use. Of the 14 cases reported over the past 25 years, three were children under the age of two and 11 were adults. All 14 were ill enough to require central venous catheters used to deliver antibiotics or nutritional liquids directly into the bloodstream. All recovered from the fungemia by either taking an antifungal medication or stopping the probiotic. Hennequin et al. investigated these cases of S. boulardii fungemia and determined the yeast gained entry into the blood not by traveling out of the intestine and invading the rest of the body, but through contamination of the central catheter.111

Take care,

Cassie
