Guest guest
News says tests show pharmaceutical drugs showing up in our drinking water. That's even scarier than it would be normally since we know inadequate studies are being done on them before they go to market now. http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,336286,00.html http://ag.arizona.edu/AZWATER/awr/july00/feature1.htm

Guest guest
LOL, Biggest laugh in awhile. " I don't care who you are, thats funny right there " If that is how it is getting in the water, good lord. Think about what else is getting through. I think if someone is flushing their meds down the drain enough to where we should be concerned with then why are we all freaking out about it, right? who <jeaninem660@...> wrote: Jay Leno's makeing wize cracks about how if were woried about the water haveing high amounts of antianixity drugs, we just need to drink more water. hehe on the serious side it seemed strange that the news was saying not to flush any medicenes down the sink. ?? :{ I dont thing that how it's getting in the water. Guest guest
When I saw diazepam was first drug mentioned, i.e. valium, I had funny thought that maybe I would feel better if I drank more tap water. However most drugs are very dangerous and if we are constantly drinking small amounts of vast array of pharmaceutical drugs it could be quite dangerous, and yes, article said pollution caused mainly by it being excreted by people. That would be major source rather than drugs being thrown away. Wonderful thought of one source of our tap/drinking water. I will be checking out a reverse osmosis water purifier for drinking water. > > Jay Leno's makeing wize cracks about how if were woried about the water > haveing high amounts of antianixity drugs, we just need to drink more > water. Guest guest
Does anyone know how to dispose of old medications. I cleaned out my mother's cabinet just last week before all the news about the drinking water. I called a local pharmacy to ask what to do with them. They told me to call Poison Control. Poison Control told me to crush up the meds then go out and dig up some dirt from the yard and mix the medication with the dirt and throw it in the trash! I don't think that's any better than flushing them down the drain so they are sitting in a box. There really should be a disposal plan in effect but that's not going to happen any time soon and most people probably wouldn't take the time to do it anyway. Just like the new light bulbs everyone is buying there is no disposal process so people will just throw them in the trash and the mercury will end up in the landfill. The contamination will continue until the government forces the public to do it correctly! LOL, Biggest laugh in awhile. Guest guest
I bet poison control told you to crush pills and mix them with dirt before throwing them away so noone else takes them. That is alot of work but by the time medicine seeps through dirt to a underground water table, it will be filtered somewhat and much left in the soil that doesn't get into water. What a mess. I hadn't given it this much thought but used to throw them in trash and put medicine vial into recyclables. Not likely children will come in contact. Only thing I can think of is animals rummaging around getting perhaps wetted pill on paws. Since plastic bags are such a nuisance anyways and supposedly stick around for so long, might as well put the pills inside a plastic bag, tie it tightly and put it in trash to hang around until eternity. > > > Does anyone know how to dispose of old medications.
