Guest guest
On Sunday afternoon, Jayant Lakshane, tutor in Ophthalmology at MGIMS died of accidental drowning. Jayant was 28. An MGIMS alumnus, Jayant belonged to the batch of 2002. He came from a small village in Bhandara district in eastern Vidarbha and graduated in 2006. He worked hard to obtain diploma in Ophthalmology from MGIMS a fortnight ago. A week back, he joined MGIMS as tutor in Ophthalmology department. On Sunday afternoon, Jayant and his four colleagues from Ophthalmology went to Bordharan, a dam, about 25 km from Sevagram. Barely 10 feet from the lake shore, he slipped and was sucked in deep waters. The body, 20 feet deep in the lake and 100 feet from the shore, was recovered by divers after an hour-long search. Jayant leaves behind his father, a septuagenarian retired school-teacher, mother, an elder sister and a younger brother. The last rites will be performed on Monday noon in his village. MGIMS will miss Jayant. His colleagues, teachers and nursing staff could barely express their shock when the news spread on campus. Jayant was considered a hard working, dedicated and committed resident in the department. He thought that his new appointment would provide him enough time and opportunity to hone skills in Ophthalmology and support his family. The destiny had willed otherwise, though. May his soul rest in peace. SP Kalantri Department of Medicine MGIMS
