Hi Sylvia,

It stands for " Ongoing Traumatic Relationship Syndrome. " It's the same as

" Cassandra Phenomenon " (CP) or " Cassandra Affective Deprivation Disorder " (CADD)

If you can access the FAAAS link later, there's full explanation for the

rationale of this new (unofficial) label: http://faaas.org/otrscp ly, I

suspect that the name change has more to do with political correctness. Some in

the self advocacy community felt that the " Cassandra " label was a slur against

them.

However, I think " Cassandra " term is still apt, since in some situations,

everything appears normal to all in the outside world. It's not obvious that the

spouse is being emotionally starved, since generally we refrain from public

displays of affection anyway. Many of them forbear in silence, they can't even

find the words to articulate what's wrong, so it would make them appear somewhat

irrational if they did try to get help. Some may eventually start flaring out,

becoming very anxious and emotional, and then they *do* appear irrational.

Here is another quick and interesting read when you can access it.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cassandra_%28metaphor%29 As you will see, AS gets

only a passing reference at very end of the article, under " other references. "
