insulation question

Hi,

We have the kind of insulation which was blown into our attic. my

husband was going to make storage space up there and cover the

insulation with plastic. I don't think covering it with plastic will

be a good idea..I am afraid of condensation if covered with plastic

since an attic is not climate controlled. Does anyone have any ideas

on how to cover insulation? I really don't like the idea of

insulation being loose like that anyway. I don't go up there but I

still want to make it as safe as possible. I just want advice on

covering the insulation, PLEASE don't tell me I need to remove the

insulation...I only want advice on how to cover it to make it safer

until we can get a different kind of insulation...It does NOT have mold.

Thanks,

Jackie

Hey !! why not use chicken wire... you could lay a 2 x 6 down on the

studs to move around up there so you will have a steady support for

your feet and knees...just roll out the chicken wire and pull tight,

then tack down, It should be sturdy enough to slide and push boxes

around on. :)

Jackie,

You are right to be concerned about covering the insulation with

plastic. It can perhaps be done either on top of or below the

insulation but it depends on the climate you are in and some

other characteristics of the house and the attic. This could also

affect what you store in the attic. Also check out the information

at www.buildingscienceconsulting.com and then find a local

contractor who understands how to properly construct what you

want.
