Guest guest
can anyone help with this....... today my arms and legs feel veryheavy and aching - does anyone have carpul tunnel?? the only way to discribe the pain is that it is the same as the carpul tunnel pains i used to get - the pain is in my arms and my hands when i type as well (all the same as it was a few years ago)!i have to say its very painful and uncomfortable today!i had my carpul tunnel op 2 years ago thing is i had the decompression in april - i had loads of problems and still not well after it. can anyone offer any advice - ive also been getting the pins and needles again these last few days - i erally dont know what to do!!i have another mri in the next few weeks as well as an appointment with a neurologist on monday - but these pains coming back reminds me of the pain i used to get so its thrown me! i though those pains would have stopped after the carpul tunnel op! Guest guest
One of the unnecessary surgeries is carpel tunnel, in other words, we do not have carpel tunnel it is actually coming from our chiari... I refused some years back to have that surgery and glad I did because when I woke up from the chiari surgery the pain was gone... I do know that in my first two years after my chiari surgery I had some symptoms return, some other symptoms appear etc... I am though a firm believer that since our nerves and back of brain were compressed it does take at least two years to get better...but I also know some of us have permanent nerve damage. ie...I have had to stay on topamax...every time I tried to get off the nerve pain was unbearable... Take this advice from me with a grain of salt ie...you could have carpel tunnel though obviously the surgery should have worked (someone could have chiari and carpel tunnel) and I was not diagnosed for years which could make my continuous nerve pain worse than others. I also always suggest to those in their first year of surgery to examine what they have been doing... have you increased your work load, house work etc...it makes a difference. Also I do not know if you are anywhere in the midwest but the last few weeks with the weather change has brought just about every symptom I can remember back... You are making the correct decision to go to the neurologist. Guest guest
thank you! i know i did more at the weekend - moving cupboards - i probably shouldnt have but it needed doing!! so in that way i guess that could have had an impact! but for me the pains are the same as the carpul tunnel! though since finding out i had chiari i often wonder if i ever had the carpul tunnel! after the second op on my righ thand the pins and needles went away but alot of the other pains reamined - so maybe that was the chiari! everything did go wrong for me after the chiari surgery so every day when i wake up with different pains it is very disheartening! somedays i think i feel better then something happens and thres more pain! one thing i do know for sure is that im in more pain than i was before the surgery - and i think the worst everytime i get someother symptom!!! the weather thing thou - it has been very cold here these last few days and i have noticed when im out that my neck has been so much worse! > > One of the unnecessary surgeries is carpel tunnel, in other words, we > do not have carpel tunnel it is actually coming from our chiari... >
Guest guest
Hello, I have carpal tunnel in my one arm. This showed up on the EMG that I had done. It said I didn't have it on my other arm, although I have problems with that arm and hand as well. I wear a wrist splint at nighttime and it helps some. good luck erica ________________________________ To: Sent: Tuesday, December 2, 2008 8:47:03 AM Subject: arm pains can anyone help with this....... today my arms and legs feel veryheavy and aching - does anyone have carpul tunnel?? the only way to discribe the pain is that it is the same as the carpul tunnel pains i used to get - the pain is in my arms and my hands when i type as well (all the same as it was a few years ago)!i have to say its very painful and uncomfortable today!i had my carpul tunnel op 2 years ago thing is i had the decompression in april - i had loads of problems and still not well after it. can anyone offer any advice - ive also been getting the pins and needles again these last few days - i erally dont know what to do!!i have another mri in the next few weeks as well as an appointment with a neurologist on monday - but these pains coming back reminds me of the pain i used to get so its thrown me! i though those pains would have stopped after the carpul tunnel op! ------------------------------------ Please Visit Our Website at: http://www.chiariconnectioninternational.com/ Lots Of Information That May Be Helpful
Guest guest
I had two emgs positive for carpel tunnel and one that was not... I wore the arm splints and did the other things they told me not to do for 3 years but still when I woke up from the chiari surgery for the first time the pain was gone... so was supposedly tennis elbow, pain in my left knee, right ankle, sinuses (haven't had a sinus infection since) gallbladder etc... I have been amazed. Of course as always this does not mean that you cannot have other conditions with chiari but I always try to tell someone unless its an emergency try to put off the other surgeries until you have had a quality decompression done...you may not need the other surgery. Guest guest
I will add my 2 cents and experience with this subject. I was having the pain that would indicate carpal tunnel. I was sent by my primary care doctor and the neurologist for an EMG. It was done by the head of the department in that hospital who does rehab and PT. He began with an attitude of sure it has to be carpal I do not believe Chiari is the problem...he sticks his lil old needle in prods a few Times and then says well I can tell you right now it is not carpal tunnell. He went ahead and finished the test to satisfy insurance/doctors. He told me the good news is that it is not carpal the bad is that it is a neurological issue from the Chiari and you will just have to deal with it how you see fit. It has been this way with each and every test I have had they are always negative. I have had EEGS, EMGs, Pulmonary lung function tests, I cant even think of all the tests I have had and all come back with no answers no reasons...then they find out I have a neurological problem and do the AHhh hahh deal... I should add I am not decompressed I don't have insurance and I am not high enough on that scale to have been decompressed when I had insurance..
