Guest guest
If your mother has OH, then the syncope (fainting) would be explained. OH is a loss of BP upon standing. Common medication to treat OH includes Florinef, midodrine, and pyridostigmine. It would be best if your mother saw an autonomic specialist. These are usually cardiologists and pulmonologists. Ask her neurologist or internist for a referral. There are lots of non-pharmacological ways to treat OH -- increase water intake, increase salt intake (eg, eat a salty pickle before standing), wear special leg stockings, keep the head of the bed elevated, etc. With OH, your mother should always be escorted when she stands up and walks. Question:? Is there a medication that can help my Mom with unexplained syncope?? Her blood pressure and heart rate dropped very low for no apparent reason in the middle of the night upon waking. a
