Guest guest
I'm going to show my age and remind you all of that old song by Barry McGuire only he didn't include fungus in the lyrics. " But ya tell me over and over and over again, my friend.... Ah, you don't believe we're on the eve of duestruction. " If you look at the BIG picture there is something terrible going on right in front of us! The honey bees, the bats, chemicals, light bulbs, our foods, plastics etc. and MOLD. AND many aren't listening! I've tried to explain to family and friends about the toxins in the new light bulbs but they aren't concerned and are still buying them! Very frustrating, Sue I know that Sharon K. posted something about this earlier so this is a follow up. I wonder what is causing the fungus to grow on them called the White Nose Syndrome. **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. Guest guest
I'm kinda new around here. What toxins in what new lightbulbs? My own personal belief on the bat die-off is that some agency is testing an aerosol agent for use on mammals and is trying to get the dosage and mode of delivery correct before applying it to the real targets.any ideas who that might be? _____ From: [mailto: ] On Behalf Of ssr3351@... Guest guest
The new compact fluorescent bulbs contain mercury(neurotoxins) and are highly toxic. If they break in your home the EPA says to open the windows for at least 15 minutes and leave the room. We can't just throw them in the trash because then the will end up in the land fill. See the consumer report dated Octpber 2007. After reading and watching the evening news this past week I will never have these in my home, too dangerous _http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/home-garden/home-improvement/hardware-buil ding-supplies/lightbulbs/compact-fluorescent-lighting-10-07/overview/bulbs-ov. htm_ (http://www.consumerreports.org/cro/home-garden/home-improvement/hardware-buildi\ ng-supplies/lightbulbs/compact-fluorescent-lighting-10-07/overview/bulb s-ov.htm) I'm kinda new around here. Guest guest
You probably have this right Sue. Very insightful of the big picture. MCS people have been referred to as canaries in the gold mine and this probably is true of us who are having other problems with indoor mold and poor building practices. I have always, from the beginning of my life been very sensitive to drugs, so perhaps more sensitive to other assults on my body as well. Too bad most people aren't paying attention. The next victims could be their children or grandchildren. Observations of frog birth defects, bees dying, now bats, MCS people seeking refuge from chemicals, us becoming ill from indoor mold. Too bad more attention isn't being paid. We pay the price now, they pay later probably. Shame is like the stock market when things aren't right, bottom can all of a sudden drop out; nature could get to the point that is just starts to fall apart quickly...not slow enough to do anything about it. Something here will probably outlive it I beleive, but may not include PEOPLE. If ANYTHING outlives the current problem, we know what it probably will be......MOLD!!! > > > I'm going to show my age and remind you all of that old song by Barry > McGuire only he didn't include fungus in the lyrics. Guest guest
Another article, from the UK in January, about the problem with flourescent lights (note the part about air quality): >The Department for Environment warned shards of glass from broken >bulbs should not be vacuumed up but instead swept away by someone >wearing rubber gloves to protect them from the bulb's mercury >content. > >In addition, it said care should be taken not to inhale any dust and >the broken pieces should be put in a sealed plastic bag for disposal >at a council dump - not a normal household bin. > >None of this advice, however, is printed on the packaging the >new-style bulbs are sold in. There are also worries over how the >bulbs will be disposed of. [...] >And dermatologist Dr Hawk, told BBC Radio 4's Today programme >that some people already find it difficult to tolerate the >fluorescent-strip lighting that is widely used in schools and >offices, which works in the same way as the eco-friendly bulbs. > >He said: " Fluorescent lights seem to have some sort of ionising >characteristic where they affect the air around them. Guest guest
On our trip to a funeral I counted 18 dead hawks on the highway between Amarillo and Lubbock. I have traveled this road many times and never seen this before. I went to Audobon online to try to report this so someone might try to see what has happened. I am guessing too much pesticides as that area is saturated. It was very sad to see. When I lived in NM we lived in a house that had over 100 bats in the attic (a maternity colony) so I knew that area was super clean. I wonder if they are still there. Guest guest
It's possible the pesticide or any chemical - there are so many-, even pharmaceutical drugs ending up in ground water, or other toxin in environment is making the bats ill and THEN the mold is attacking them since their defenses are down/ their immune system isn't functioning properly. That would be my guess. Something has weakened them and mold is an opportunistic invader. Of course we in enclosed home with mold growing, toxins from the mold can weaken us and make us susceptible to infection by mold/fungus but living outdoors probably some environmental pollutant or accumulated affect of many environmental pollutants. We are heavily polluting our environment. > > I know that Sharon K. posted something about this earlier so this is a > follow up.
