I do not see the comments I made, and the one that I made for Marcie McGovern on there. Maybe we were more harsh on our words than others. I don't think it is fair of them to take the posts off, after all we were true to our words, and the criticism was constructive. Unless I am blind, then I know I did not see 3 posts that were mine and Marcie's. Darlene I think they took down any posts that had links to other websites, articles. **************Create a Home Theater Like the Pros. Watch the video on AOL Home. Guest guest
Jeanine, you can send your comment to me, as I have a segment on my website. Say what is in your heart and what you believe in, I am taking all comments. You can send them to my email, than I will post them. Many of the posts have been deleted, this is why I want to continue the support for Dr. Rea and all of us that are sick. Thanks, Darlene
Guest guest
It is entirely possible to state the harshest forms of criticism without being censored for it. Agreed, it takes restraint and a great deal of thought - possibly consultation with someone to aid you in developing/editing your thoughts. However, if we are to represent a problem of science, humanity, LIFE to the public in a responsible way, then it is counterproductive to phrase it in a fashion that people can dismiss as either uneducated or illogical. of not outright abusive and libelous. Such behavior is far more likely to be interpreted as sentiments representating mental unstability than justifiable fury. Is it fair? No, it is not. Is it reality. Yes. Try presenting something in a court of law in any manner which is unacceptable in newsprint. You will get fined or thrown out of court. This is the court of public opinion. We can't win just yet but the better the argument is phrased, the more people won over with each new effort. This is the problem with presenting Dr. Nagy's unusual story as typical. It is not typical. I had more than one telephone conversation with Dr. Nagy and her experiences are remarkably atypical of chemically injured persons in general although not unique. Her advice to me in our last conversation was innapropriate given her belief that her experiences were definitive for our population. When I told her that her recommendations would not benefit me, SHE told me that I was being 'negative' and my attitude would hold me back from progressing. So the issues of psychology can be misused by each side if we are not vigilant about it and restrained. Motivations aside, what matters is being effective. We can and will do better than this story on nightline. Many of us cannot be cured. That is reality. Can we be helped? Only if we work harder at presenting facts. Unbridled emotion by either advocates OR adversaries does not lead to effective best arguments. When we do express it, it must be done with great care and power - in terms that will be respected (even if not believed). We can help each other with the framing of hard to express facts. Let's seek each other's aid in doing so. I have at least half a dozen people who help me to write. One died from the effects of chlordane poisoning a few years ago. Irene Wilkenfeld, may she rest in peace, helped me learn to write again after losing a large part of my literacy skills to brain injury frm pesticide poisoning. She edited my first article, " Hello, I am an Acceptable Risk " and helped me to express my outrage at being a mere blip on industry radar - just another statistic counted as a loss of no consequence to them even if I did become a burden to society. A professor of risk assessment at Carnegie Mellon, and a chapter of Sierra Club used it as a training exercise. We also must acknowledge that it is only through prevention of the problem that those of us already ill can find safe places to live or work. Only through prevention that this and MANY other ailments can be stopped. So let's not emphasize CURING the ailment but that the damage of poisoning by any source can be PREVENTED. For those already damaged, non-toxic living and working arrangements are essential. The psychological issues are effects, not causes and must be placed in perspective. Also, I believe there are studies showing the incidence of mental illness is no higher among the EI group than any other group of individuals with regard to premorbid histories. Presentation does matter. We must expect those representing others to acknowledge that realistically.
