The way it was explained to me and it follows logically is that IF your dura is

very thin, then it is a representative of what the rest of your connective

tissue is like.  In other words, if you have a very thin dura, then logically,

you can assume that your connective tissue is probably in as bad a shape. 

 

One cannot say the same about the severity of symptoms.  Symptoms do not equate

the same way as the above.
