Guest guest
Hi Ted, Thanks so much for your suggestion. I'll let Jeannie reply, but just wanted to add that we are encouraging people to enter what has worked for their families in our Database section. Once it's filled, it will break down by symptom, what people have tried and had success with. We are also working on an fda petition that parents will be able to discuss with their doctors. Carol Dear all,We are complete newbies to the world of constipation. Our son just turned two, but it appears this is an issue that some families have been dealing with for many many years.I tried looking at the files and links sections, but to honest, I was a bit overwhelmed by what I found. I guess if a parent has been going to a GI doctor for several years already, many of the ideas on this board might seem really basic. For parents like us, though, we are basically being exposed to the very scary thought that we may not be able to rely on our own GI's advice entirely, as there are potential side effects to things like Miralax.I was wondering if anyone had thought of trying to really consolidate some of the information that has been emailed around here into some sort of formal wiki. For new parents like us, it's a bit hard knowing how or where to get started in terms of educating ourselves and getting comfortable with the various approaches we're reading about.I think particularly for new parents, it would be very helpful to have information in a more consolidated format with links to supporting articles or research for parents who want to educate themselves further.I would be willing to participate in such an endeavor, if some of the knowledgeable parents here could contribute their knowledge. Jeanie, I see you have set up some polls and links and stuff, what do you think of this idea?Ted
Guest guest
Yes, I saw the database that has been started too. Perhaps there's a way to integrate that database into a wiki effort. The database specifically I felt was tough to use for us because the information being put in is pretty limited, so it's very hard to tell whether someone else's solution might apply to one's own situation. For example, the parent protocols database doesn't require any information on the child's age and the length of different medications and supplements used. Someone taking Miralax for 10 years is in a very different position than someone considering taking it for the first time. Having more categories of information would help produce correlations between different people's histories too, which would help your effort to find and publicize side effects. I just thought a collectively written wiki would be a way for people to contribute their knowledge to a FAQ resource that would be consolidated and coherent enough to be used by newbies. Typically wikis and FAQs are written by taking previous " best posts " and consolidating them. Then, people constantly update the wiki/FAQ as new and better information arises. It also tends to bring out people's best information by providing more organization to the information. Ted > > Hi Ted, > > Thanks so much for your suggestion.
