Guest guest
Hi Barb, Wow that is very specific. After being exposed to toxic mold from what ive read on this board and elsewhere and from my own experiences, our bodies are totally jacked up(ok not a professional term i know) after exposure!! And that is during and post treatment with meds like anti-fungals and cholestyramine and others that are specific to biotoxins. I mean all the normal biological processes especially naturally occurring detoxification and hyper sensitivity to all things chemical and if re-exposure occurs, within minutes we are back to square one with our declining health. Im sure your physician is correct in his implications however it seems to be just a small part of the bigger picture from the various, numerous, life changing symptoms we all suffer after exposure. But to answer your question it would seem like a Doctor would have to find that lab your looking for and order the lab work. Most labs only work with doctors orders unfortunately. Sorry i couldnt be of more help to you. God Bless Eli p.s. Supplementing your diet with a great multi vitamin will help you with your B-Vitamin deficiencies. agasaya <agasaya@...> wrote: Are there any labs which currently assess the esterases necessary for various metabolic processes related to detoxification, including the sulfur transferases? My physician feels these are implicated in many with environmentally induced illness and are very likely to be diminished in my own case, given my serious sulfur allergies, deficiencies in folate, B vitamins, food allergies to sufur-containing foods etc. These cannot be tested commercially as far as we can tell. Thanks for any info you may have, Barb Rubin
Guest guest
I was poisoned by pesticides before I ever became mold sensitized. The issue is that most buildings are 'sick' and we were nearly all exposed to them prior to illness developing. I was fortunate to find out (after decades of reactivity) what 'got' me and how it effected me. I can't touch Bs, folate, glutathione, NAC, etc. because I can't process sulfur which is the basis of our detox system. Sulfation/methylation problems are suspected in many disorders from autism to cancer. I handled it all fine before poisoning so the mechanism was 'broken'. Drug clearance is also effected and I cannot tolerate any foods which are rich in these vitamins and minerals. We also found that processing of vitamin A is via the same sulfur enzymes and I have long been unable to tolerate A even topically (intermittent night blindness as well). These tests are not available commercially and my doc will happily prescribe any tests if I can find the lab to do it. They couldn't. Guest guest
Barb, You might take a look at Genova Diagnostics (http://www.gdx.net/home/) They do a variety of specialized tests. You could probably call and speak to someone. > > Are there any labs which currently assess the esterases necessary for > various metabolic processes related to detoxification, including the > sulfur transferases? Guest guest
Barb, Did your doctor have a specific assay in mind? I used to work in a medical lab, but I think for what you're looking for you're going to have to look into labs that do more specialized testing. I'll list out a few examples below that may be able to provide some of the end information that he's looking for, although I'm not sure that they'll have the exact test menu that he's trying to find. See if he has any specific markers in mind that he's looking to test. Anyway, here's some suggestions for labs that may provide some of the detox pathway info or metabolic info that he's looking for (Personally, I've only ever had testing at Spectracell): 1.) http://www.spectracell.com/ They test " intracellular " levels, which is quite different from regular blood testing which tests " extracellular " or circulating levels. Their FIA comprehensive 5000 profile gives a comprehensive view of what's going on inside your cells nutritionally. When I got this test done, I was surprized to find out I had several deficiencies and once corrected made a difference in how I felt. It seems being exposed to these toxins robs our bodies of a lot of vitamins & other nutrients. 2.) http://www.gdx.net/home/ Under Metabolic testing, they have a Comprehensive Detox Profile. Don't really know much about the lab or testing though. 3.) http://www.metametrix.com/content/DirectoryOfServices/Main Again, don't know much about this lab. They do offer a few profiles, such as the Organix Profiles & the Toxic Effects Profiles that may be helpful. 4.) http://www.specialtylabs.com/ This is a very reputable " reference Lab " . They do a lot of " unusual " testing that is isn't done at many of your mainstream labs. If they don't do the testing, they may know where you can get it done. Your doctor may also find the " Rainbow Reference Books " very helpful. I believe that they now have them online to reference. 5.) Nichols Institute is part of Quest Diagnostics Lab and they do very specialized testing as well. I apologize for not being able to give you better info, but I no longer actively work in the field because of my illness. I hope some of this info may help though.
