Guest guest Posted February 14, 2008 Report Share Posted February 14, 2008 Silver Alert System - A Success (Source: News14) - The Silver Alert system has only been active for six months in North Carolina and it's already helping authorities find missing adults across the state. To activate a " Silver Alert " a person must be 18 years or older, suffering from dementia or other cognitive disorder, reported missing by a legal guardian or family member and entered into a national computer system. Signed into law on Aug. 29, the Silver Alert system went public on Dec. 19. Last year, out of three state Silver Alerts, all three persons were found unharmed. This year there have been five issued in North Carolina - all of them have been found and returned home safely, as well. Silver Alert is not a nationwide initiative. North Carolina is only the third state to implement the program, following Texas and Colorado.
