Guest guest
Imo, From a grad course on aging that I took about 20 years ago... the professor said that it was common discussion in the med fields. Like the Chicken and Egg question. Some doctors believed that people fell because their hip bone simply broke, and others said the hip broke because they fell. According to him, at the point that most people have this happen, the strength of the hip bone is very frail, so it is almost impossible to tell. Dann Imogene Ward wrote: Hi all, Where have I been? I told a friend that A broken hip can occur on it's own. It does not need to be from a fall. Sometimes when a person falls off a curb etc., they say the fall broke the hip, when in fact many times the fall is due to weak bones that cracked causing the fall Don hasn't broken a hip, but he has been quite unsteady lately. He stays bruised because of flailing his arms at night. My Don is getting so terribly confused that I have to be with him 24/7. We are in the process of getting tile installed in our house, and are sleeping on the floor. I got rid of my king bed, and now Don is sleeping on his mattress and I sleep on the springs with some foam rubber. It is so hard to crawl out of bed three or four times a night to go to the bath room, and be woke up by Don that many times too. I've had very little sleep for several days. This has to be done because I am sick all the time from severe allergies. The Doctor said I had to get rid of the carpet. I have already bought the tile, and a bunch of the kids came over yesterday and moved us out except the essentials to live. Two recliners, a small table between us. A small table with the small TV on it. My computer is now on a roll around small computer cabinet that I bought when I lived for 4 years in a trailer. It can be rolled out from room to room very easily. So, we are camping in the house. Some friends and another son will take out the carpet, and vinyl, then the tile man will tile one half of the house, and when it cures in 24 hours, we can move everything into the tiled section while he tiles the second half of the house. We even have a small refrigerator and a micro wave to move into the back rooms while the front is being tiled. The Freezer is large enough to hold about 6 Healthy Choice meals. We'll have to sponge bathe for two days, but that's alright. Stupid me, I put ten dresser drawers in the new shower, because the dresser couldn't be lifted with them. Now, I don't have but one shower, and can't use it while it is being tiled. We'll still have the toilet and a sink in the other bath for two days.I've done a lot of camping in my younger days, but I'm not young anymore. So there you have what is going on here, except for Don. All of this has left him scrambled. My daughter asked me to please keep him out of the way. He stands in the way even when I asked him to move. He said I'm out of the way, and stood right in the middle of the hall while the kids were coming through with a piece of furniture. So, I asked him to come into the next room and sit with me as I wasn't feeling well, and he came very nicely. I kept him there the rest of the afternoon. I asked him to butter some biscuits to go with some soup my daughter had brought over. He did, and had them on the griddle to warm, except he used Mayonnaise. And Gobs of it at that. I caught what he had done just in time. I scraped it all off and then buttered the biscuits. I wasn't scooping poop, or scooping trash from the toilet ( I laughed my silly head off, except at the time it wasn't funny Dear Carol) I did clean soiled underwear, and do have to give him everything he eats. He fights with the house key and I am glad. I knew a time would come that he couldn't open the door. The problem is he hands me HIS key and tells me to try the lock. It works every time. Our car alarm went off last night and woke our neighbors at one, at four and at six. They called and told me. We didn't hear it at all because we were in the back bedroom. Things like that is just part of the game of being swamped. I told Don and he said yeah, I heard the machine or what ever that thing is that makes music. He pointed to the place where the CD player used to be. That is the way he is talking lately. He is very confused. I love you all, and please forgive my typing. I am some tired. Love a lot, because I need it, (smile) Imogenew
