Guest guest
Strictly for the birds With all the hype surrounding the Olympics and the Parliamentarians using un-parliamentary language, a small achievement by the Pakistani Government has gone totally unnoticed by the media. Yes, they have achieved a stupendous milestone. They have classified the Ostrich as an animal. This is such a great turning point that even Darwin turning in his grave will find it tough to digest. In fact, it is tougher to digest than the statement that they knew nothing of Osama at Abbotabad. You could argue that an Ostrich is a bird because it lays eggs. But then even snakes lay eggs, and they are not birds. You might say that Ostriches have wings, but then so have sanitary pads. You could also point out that it has feathers, but then so has your pillow or your duster. What's the point in calling it a flightless bird, when you already have a Kingfisher which is on the verge of becoming flightless, and by that I mean the airline and not the bird. You could also say that the Ostrich is a bird because it is bird brained, but then, you could definitely say that so is the Pakistan government! -Kishore Shah
Guest guest
Ha ha ha... enjoyed reading every line, each sentence made me laugh/smile :-D Ravin '82 PS: Do tigers have AIDS? This was the question asked in the Indian Parliament a few days ago (and the answer, after a few minutes of calls to " specialists " was NO, as reported in TOI online). Sounds dumb, doesn't it? Had the question been " are tigers susceptible it HIV infections " , there could have been an iota of intelligence at their level 'cause I'm sure the " H " standing for " human " would not have been known to our average member of the parliament, forget its supposed origin in monkeys ;-) All this being in light vein, of course ;-) > ** > > > Strictly for the birds > > With all the hype surrounding the Olympics and the Parliamentarians using > un-parliamentary language, a small achievement by the Pakistani Government > has gone totally unnoticed by the media. Guest guest
Thanks Aasawari, Ravin. Pakistan Government enacted that law to tax all animal meats especially during Ramadan. Probably the lucre of Rupees in taxes made them classify the Ostrich as an animal. Kishore Shah 1974
Guest guest
If the Pakis could accept Osama as an angel, proclaiming the ostrich an animal is no surprise.
