Guest guest
A day before, Dr Ramji Singh left MGIMS for Patna- for good. Ramji was a professor of Physiology at MGIMS and had lead the department for over a decade. He came to Sevagram in mid-eighties, a period when television showed Malgudi Days and Sundays were filled with Ramayana and Mahabharata. He stayed in Type 2 quarters for several years, before moving to MLK colony and finally built his own nest in Warud- half a mile from Boy's hostel. All these years Ramji was immensely popular in Sevagram. He loved socializing, frequenting the homes of dozens of his friends in and around Sevagram and always walked an extra mile to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed his support-students, residents, faculty, staff, or a common man. Although he endured a myocardial infarction a year ago and had to undergo a bypass operation at SGPGI, Lucknow, he continued to work with the same zeal and gusto he had lived his life all these years. Our dean and administrators would miss him terribly- for he was always willing to take any work assigned to him - PMT, medical education unit, MGIMS academy- to name just a few. So, as Sevagram says au revoir to Ramji, there is another institution all too eager to say bonjour to this slightly built, soft spoken, kind man: Ramji is about to head - and develop - the department of Physiology at AIIIMS,Patna. We, at Sevagram, can now take pride in saying, " Our friend is a head of the department at AIIMS. And we call him by his first name. " Wah, Wah, Ramji! Guest guest
Correction: Ramji Sir cannot stay away from Sevagram. It is his 'permanent address'! So he cannot leave for good. We are definitely going to miss Sir. The quality I loved most about him was his ability to take people together. And he has always been there for us, when we needed someone most and didn't know whom to ask! Thank you Sir... I know I didn't say that to you personally, but your presence when no one else was there, even when you weren't asked, mattered most to me. And if you take all the souvenirs of all the conferences, CMEs and workshops that were held in the last 15-20 years, I bet there will not be a single one where his name is not in the organizing committee. The most reliable person around whose organizational skills went unsung. I wonder where we will run to when we need to set up the next inaugural function! I know you will be back here soon... so not adieu... but au revoir! And best wishes for this new innings!
