Guest guest
Regina, Is that the adjustment that is also done on a table that when they push on your jaw bone, the table/device collapses under your head? You say the movement was subtle, so maybe it was not the severe adjustments I got as a child. Long, long, long before I had a correct diagnosis I had headaches as a child. My mother took me to a chiropractor that had that collapsing table thing. They would lay me on my side and push hard and fast against my jaw. But, in my case it was not a subtle adjustment but a " smack up side of the head " adjustment. I often passed out or hurt so bad I cried afterward. Which prompted the chiro to say " gee, she must have needed that. " Yikes !!! But, I also clearly remember him describing my initial x-rays to us that my head was jammed down onto the neck, so, he knew my neck was not right in that area. This went on for more years than I care to count and is probably the reason my tonsils herniatied OR the worsening over the years, and for the intractable issues I have that decompression surgery did not resolve. My advice would be to anyone, Chiari or not, RUN don't walk away from adjustments until you KNOW for sure whether you have Chiari or the conditions to develop Chiari. I think Chiro's should insist (or be required) to be sure someone does not have Chiari before proceeding. I know people who are not Chiarians who are greatly helped by gentle adjustments. The chiros in my adult life (up to Chiari dx) did not do the bone crunching type of adjustment of my childhood and at least one or two said they felt something was wrong with my neck and would not adjust it. Instead, they would massage my neck and shoulders, then adjust my middle and lower back. The middle and lower back adjustment felt great. (First migraine was at 9, Chiari diagnosis at age 46 or so, decompression at 47. Over 30 years in between.) Their Philosophy is that in adjusting C1 or Atlas Subluxation which is a misalignment of the head and neck. What you do is lay on your side and the Chiropractor pushes on your jaw bone.
