Guest guest
Well I am not sure how much Chiari has changed or affected this info but we have the preliminary results of Fallon's testing. I will attempt to " sum " it up as I was told by the psychologist today. I will have the hard copy report in 4 wks, but she did go over some basics. FYI, Fallon is a straight A student, has had 7 chiari surgeries, and had to drop her Honors Trig class this year due to just not understanding her class-very unlike her, but her efforts were fruitless so we decided on testing to see if we could identify what the problem is... Her IQ is 120 which is high average/superior range. They find this and then compare specific parts of the brain and they should all function within the same range. Although she has a high range/superior IQ her memory is " average " and this is the part of the test she did the worst on and they are still working on scoring that area. She struggled most with visuals during the memory testing. INPUT--Where are visuals controlled in the brain, does anyone know???? Broad reading she was 98% which is in the very superior range. Broad written language she was 89% which is high average. Math Reasoning (applied concepts) she was 72% average and Broad Math she was 81% which is high average. Overall the psychologist said that she was suprised that with as much surgery as Fallon has had that she did this well, She sees MANY people with much lower scores. There is no way to know where Fallon was pre-op b/c we never had any reason for these tests and there is no way to know whether or not any of the surgeries caused the lower scores in Math Reasoning, but it is a validation as to why she was having so much trouble with the class. Now my 2 cents worth and questions I will be asking.... Her lowest score was in memory-could this get worse????? She has always been a straight A student EVEN in Math, so SOMETHING has changed that. Meds? Surgeries? The pyscholigist's opinion is that Fallon should remain in Honors Math with a tutor to work with her this summer and during the school year and she should try a recorder for class so she can replay anything she forgets while trying to work it at home. She felt that she would be bored in a regular Math class, but that Honors Math will challenge her more than ever before. She will meet w/ the tutor soon to go over our plan. I am going to take the test results with me to Duke to ask the doctor about-I guess my main concern is why her memory is so far below the others and this is a major area I see as getting WORSE! Sorry to be so long but a lot of you had asked me to let you know the findings of this test.
