If they include PEG in their investigation, it will help our cause.

Per the Environmental Working Group Skin Deep body products database, PEG is rated a 4-6 out of 10 for toxicity and is restricted in cosmetics, not to be used on injured or damaged skin (but ok to drink).....

Dear Carol,

Mercury in face cream, formaldehyde in hair products, lead in lipstick – the health hazards of toxic chemicals in cosmetics have never been more obvious. Now we have a once-in-a-lifetime chance to do something about it!

In response to these public health scandals, the U.S. Energy and Commerce Committee has scheduled a Congressional hearing to discuss the need to strengthen federal cosmetic regulations. It’s very likely that the committee will attach language to address how the FDA regulates cosmetics to a must-pass medical device and prescription drug user fee authorization bill. We don’t yet know what the scope is of the language that will be included, but we do know the committee leadership is favoring an industry bill and may try to fast-track legislation that would rubber stamp the status quo and not include key provisions needed to protect our health!

Write to the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee today!

The hearing will take place on March 27, which means we have less than a week to make sure our voices are heard!

The big cosmetics companies know change is in the air and are gearing up for a fight--we need to your help TODAY—right now-- to send the Energy and Commerce Health Subcommittee – who has jurisdiction over this issue - the message that it’s time to stand up for women’s health (and men and babies too) by supporting meaningful legislation that would get cancer-causing chemicals and other harmful ingredients out of the products we put on our bodies every day.

Write the subcommittee members today and tell them: We don’t want mercury in our lotions, formaldehyde in hair products and baby shampoos, or lead in our lipstick.

We’ve come so far – for the first time in decades, this issue is on the national radar – but we’ve got a long way to go to make sure Congress acts in the best interests of our health.
