Guest guest
9 tears they duffered and stuffed their house. she had obvious mood disorders and he seemed dazed and confused. made me wonder which came first the toxic black mold or the hording, and sreange that they both had this problem, he could seem to manage the mail. and she seemed to keep buying things she already had bought before, like maybe she forgot.?? they showed moldy walls that things had been stacked up against, pulled up moldy carpet, talked a few times about the basement being very bad. and they showed a big spot on the cealingm how would that get there? they stressed the health problem many times. no, didn't say the mood problems were from the mold but didn't really say it wasn't either, overall might make people thing about the conection. ? more so maybe if they know someone sick from mold exposure.oprah did say, toxic black mold several times. > > about toxic black mold. in a horders house and specialests had to come > in and lots of stuff thrown away and some walls had to be revoved. > lasy with whezzing and illness. ot's a follow up of a story they did on > these horders. the one guy/interviewer got fungal rash from head to toe >
Guest guest
I was hoping they'd go into discussing toxic mold more than they did. But the emphasis was on hoarding. >
Guest guest
yes it was. do you think people well wonder why they both seemed to have this problem? chronic fatique and cognitive problems come to mind. they even talked about haveing no life whole in the home, how they did nothing while there. wonder if they got any expert medical help? > > I was hoping they'd go into discussing toxic mold more than they did. > But the emphasis was on hoarding. > > > >
Guest guest
I agree. They both need counseling.
Guest guest
I agree. They both need counseling.?? I domt think counseling is going to help them. it showed them just a week after their house had been redone, I think they should do a follow up and see if they have recovered or are suffering chemical sensitivitys, ect. I'm betting their haveing a hard time of it.
Guest guest
Ironically, I had emailed her website about 2 months ago suggesting the topic of mold and other environmental illnesses. She had done a show back in the 90s on the subject, and I haven't heard of her doing one since. As she is so very popular and influential, it would be great for her to highlight this important issue. Perhaps we should all write a note to her via the website suggesting this topic? Missy

Guest guest
I think if we started with the exposure that many American homes are sick, not just because of toxic chemicals in construction, but because they are built without any consciousness of mold prevention, unlike many European countries, like Germany, who think our building practices are barbaric. Then we cut to that info someone wrote about how different molds are used as biological agents, and how many Gulf War Veterans were poisoned by molds, among other things. And then testimonials from people like us, how our lives have been dismantled by mold illness-how it occurs, our lives before and after, the financial hit, what we go through just to live. Throw in the injury done to children and infants (touches people more than adults). Then having Dr, Shoemaker write, or speak, and talk about his book. This establishes some evidence that it is indeed in illness-- all leading to what I believe is at the root of our needs-homes, apts., etc, built with mold prevention standards, no matter what the rent or cost, legislation passed that holds all landlords responsible for the PROPER remediation and cost, (with someone like Dr. Shoemaker setting the standards, ie people who really know what the hell they're dealing with)-starting immediately. New construction starting on safe homes right away for those already poisoned to be able to relocate and heal in....in every state. Personally, people having safe homes, that's my goal. I hope I didn't misstate any info-I got most of it from this group. Anyway, that's my 2 cents.

Guest guest
This outline sounds fine - my only comment is that there should be guidelines about mold for any building - home or public space. I was exposed to mold at work - a public community college. I went to work every day and begged to have the space tested bc I knew something wasn't right. There are no standards for mold in NY state. So work and home are equally important. Is someone willing to take a stab at a brief summary for the Oprah site? The site won't take a long letter - I think that if the staff receives a concise summary with bullets and perhaps a link to a site like www.mold-help.org that illustrates some of the horror stories out there, it might be most effective. Guest guest
good point-definately all buildings. If all approve of this basic outline with added addendum, would somebody be willing to organize it into bullet points? My brain is not good at organizing. I'd be happy to put it in form, or flesh it out, after that. Then maybe someone else can send it with mold-help.org reference and send it on to Oprah. Together we make one big complete functioning brain! --- Missy Gluckmann <mopsyj77@...> wrote: > This outline sounds fine - my only comment is that > there should be guidelines about mold for any > building - home or public space. Guest guest
Many mycotoxins like trichothecenes and ochratoxin directly effect the monoaminargic neurotranmitters like dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine. So its quite possible, I would even say probable that toxic mold can caue changes in behavior like hoarding. Also, when people are sick and feel threatened they might be in fear for their survival which is I think where hoarding starts. People who have had trauma related to poverty tend to keep things and reuse things, and the fatigue caused by mold can make it hard to actually use the things someone collects.. but the sickness also makes them need more of a safety net.. etc. ad infinitum..
