Guest guest
I am just a single mother of a child with autism who works full time, and who is trying tirelessly to recover him from autism. I do not have the time or funds to run for office because of this, and do not have a husband to help me with my child so I can do so. But I am still involved. Each year I take some time to lobby my congressional delegation on funding for biomedical research to help our kids NOW. Cure? Great. Cause? Great. What will help our families now? There has been so much energy and thought in the debate today on this site. Take that energy, and get active as much as you can. Even if that is five minutes a year. Maybe visit www.thomas.gov and search for " autism " and find a bill you can support through a letter or call to your congressional delegation. Ask them what they are doing to support your family and our issue--autism. I don't know either way if someone with a child with another disability really gets what parents of children with " invisible disabilities " like autism (even though some of our children look different) really knows what we go through, financially and otherwise. Our knowledge base here is exceptional. Let's go impress that upon the people who appropriate funds--the U.S. Congress. Just my two cents.
