OSHA has cited the school for mold before, now parents and some teachers want the school demolished. Orchard Elementary school was first cited by OSHA over a year ago. Signs of mold still existing in the building have many locals angry. " I do not want developing minds and teachers who are here 40 to 50 hours a week in a sick environment, " said Read, a school employee. Since the OSHA citing, the school has spent tens of thousands of dollars trying to fix the problem. The school has replaced carpets, revamped all crawlspaces, dug trenches around the building and installed a new drainage system. But parents and some teachers say enough is not being done and that demolishing the whole building is the only solution. " Sometimes you have to do what you don't want to do and in my opinion, they need to tear down the building, " says Luann Witt, a West Valley City mother. Tesch, Principal of Orchard Elementary says the mold has been tested three times in the last year and the results confirmed that the mold is not dangerous. " I have my teachers here, they have their children and I would never have a child in a building I wouldn't have my own children in, " said Tesch. An open-discussion meeting regarding the mold and the future of the building is set for Thursday evening.
