Stroke/LBD

Hi all, I don't get on here often, but am usually in the LBD chat room

most weeknight evenings.

I was wondering if anyone else is caring for someone with LBD who has

had a stroke?

My husband seems to have cycles of weakness and I was wondering if it

is from the LBD. Since he cannot communicate well, it is hard to

separate problems from the stroke with those from LBD.

He has recently resumed physical therapy because he had lost ground

after a few hospital stays. About 2 weeks ago he was progressing

pretty well and walked almost 50 feet with help and a hemi walker.

Then last weekend, he got weak again and some days I have trouble even

transferring him from bed to chair or chair to commode, etc..

Phyllis,

My dad is home with 24/7 caregivers in addition to my mom who would not be

able to handle him alone. These women are trained to know safe ways to transfer

him from bed, in and out of the shower, and so on. Sometimes when we're there

he can walk around on his own with help getting in and out of chairs/bed and

someone walking beside him guiding him for safety. He will go for a " stroll "

with the caregiver beside him up and down the driveway. Other times he is so

weak that he cannot even stand. He slumps over and seems to not have any energy

to get from one place to the other. We have a transport chair that they can use

when he is like that. I just attribute it to the roller coaster nature of

LBD--some days he feeds himself and other days he sits with his eyes closed at

the table and has to be fed. There doesn't seem to be a " cause " for the fatigue

most of the time. My dad has not had a stroke, although he had a heart attack

in 2004. I just think it's the Lewy

Coaster.

Thanks Dianne,

I have been feeling it was probably from the LBD, but was hoping for

some confirmation. I want to keep up the physical therapy and they

need to know that there are other factors that hinder his walking. The

therapist working with him now is trying to get an EStim ? device to

help keep his leg muscles active even when he is in a " weak mode " . At

least that is the way I understand it.
