Guest guest
Posted May 2, 2008 Mold found in Head Start building Oshkosh Northwestern - Oshkosh,WI* http://www.thenorthwestern.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article? AID=/20080502/OSH0101/805020428/1987 Mold was found in the Boys and Girls Club of Oshkosh building which houses the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh Head Start program. Test results from American Air revealed a low level presence of several types of mold underneath carpet areas in the first and second floors and in the east hallway, according to a press release. Evidence of moisture damage was also found behind the south wall in Room 227. The Boys and Girls Club is working on a remediation plan, which will include work on Room 227. They asked Head Start staff not to use Room 227 until the work is completed. The BGCO will also replace carpet on the top floor and treat the floor areas in June. Classes resumed in the Head Start building on April 14. Marc Dosogne, CEO of the Boys and Girls Club of Oshkosh, said he closed the Wilcox building on March 20 as a precautionary measure after some staff reported feeling ill, indicating the possible presence of mold. Guest guest
Unfortunately there little interest in monitoring the summer humidity levels in most public buildings. During wet, cool summer weather, indoor %RH soars to +70%RH. At the cool surfaces, near condensation occurs for weeks. Months later mold is found and clean occurs. How about monitoring the summer humidity levels? When %RH exceeds 65%RH, apply dehumidification to main low humidity. The reality is that most buildings in green grass climate will experience this high humidity condition for several months. Get dehumidification in place and keep the building dry instead of being surprised the mold next fall/winter. This problem is common through the green grass climates.
