Guest guest
I agree with the comparisons being foolish. I could never understand what difference it made if mold was outside, where it belongs, where it is needed to decompose organic matter and return it to the soil to re-energize and renew it for new plant life. It is also interesting to hear the genetic predisposition to triggers that cause inflammation, and markers which predict reasonable parameters of illness when returned to the offending environment. It was the first time I heard Dr. Shoemaker, in this format, and I was very impressed with his knowledge base, experience and his easy manner of teaching the listening audience about the process of becoming sick from a 'sick' building. Guest guest
You are welcome. Dr. Shoemaker will be on IAQ Radio again next week. If you have never gone to their website, you should. Joe and Cliff, the hosts of the program are compiling a VERY impressive audio library of the mold issue. You can listen to all sides of the issue from advocates such as HADD to defense experts such a Burge to treating physicians to microbiologists to defense attorneys like Govorno to remediators to Dr. Shoemaker. It's a great source of info. And if you are going to be on the computer for a while, you can listen to old broadcasts while doing other work. _http://www.iaqradio.com/_ (http://www.iaqradio.com/) Sharon K. Guest guest
Great information. I emailed them and thanked them for doing the interview and bringing public awareness to this problem. Wish it could make the national news some evening. Sue You are welcome. Dr. Shoemaker will be on IAQ Radio again next week. If you have never gone to their website, you should. Is it coming from the exterior of the house such as a moldy roof, fence, composting pile, orchard etc. with spores coming indoors? A much larger count would be present outdoors in such cases. This doesn't mean the indoor area isn't in need of remediation but it goes to the issue of liability and building integrity; manner of solving the problem etc. I know someone whose source for house mold were spores coming off a crumbling detached garage roof. I know another person who bought new fence and began having very bad mold reactions outdoors and finally indoors. She had the fence checked and it was the source of the spores. Exchanging the fence and interior cleaning solved the problem. The garage roof needed replacing and careful disposal of the original mess. It is also good to see if the kinds of spores present are similar indoors and outside. If indoor spores of a different type than outdoors, it can be a significant clue to look well beyond outdoor sources of spores. But regardless of outdoor concentrations, indoor mold exists in a closed environment and will obviously have more severe effects for smaller concentrations - although many professionals will deny that logic. Always remember that people are busy trying to avoid apportionment of blame. They don't get that all most of us care about is solving our health and housing problems. But for survival purposes, there is no such thing as unimportant information when it comes to solving problems of toxicity and contamination. Guest guest
Thanks and it is good to see if there is blatant outdoor mold blowing in like the fence or garage which is a great example. But, unfortunately some unsavory and unethical 'testers' will put the mold traps in the bushes, where mold naturally occurs in order to create the " outdoor v. indoor " imbalance, because, the balance is supposed to be: higher on the outside ----------- lower on the inside if it is higher on the INSIDE ---------- lower on the outside I understand there is a " presumption " of water intrusion. It is the equation for testing that is out of balance, and perhaps should be taken " in context, " rather than 'exclusive' which could tend to favor the employer, in the case of a work " exposure " injury. 2008 ©
Guest guest
Did anyone pick up on what Dr. Shoemaker said about TB; that it produces its own toxin. I perked up when I heard this because shortly after being diagnosed with Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency I started to do research on the causes of Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency and I found out that TB use to be the most common cause of Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency and it still is in third world counties. It makes me think that the toxins from mold may have caused my adrenal insufficiency. Sharon Hanson > > > Great information.
