Guest guest
Hi Mara, I appreciate the heads up, but in the promo material no mention is made of either spiders or mosquitoes. I think it's either one or the other. I never see any other kind of bug. I live in a city, not in the country where I know that the selection of creeping, crawling, flying (biting) insects is limitless! Guest guest
I ordered the bugrepel but haven't used that yet. I also ordered the flea, ant, roach, rodent Guard. We live in TX where we have terrible fire ant problems. For at least 5 years I have been working to rid myself of a gigantic ant bed that seems to grow every year and I also have a new one that has cropped up this year not far from the giant one. I sprinkled the Guard on Thursday and checked on both beds this morning. The newest one is a ghost town. The older one has some ants still around the lower edge so I added more Guard to that area. Amazing. So Mara, thanks for the info. Edith -----Original Message----- From: Mara Miles Hi Dianne, The best natural repellant I've used is BugRepel. It works! I have used it on myself, my dogs and my horses. You can buy the concentrate and mix it up to the strength you need. You an add it to shampoos, a mister bottle etc. Best part is that it smells wonderful, unlike so many. Here is a link to the site: http://www.bugrepel.com/ hope this helps! mara
Guest guest
If you have not considered this and still have trouble in a few months, I would get diatomaceous earth from earthworkshealth.com and go nuts spreading a thick layer of that everywhere you can think of. It is completely safe for all animals and greenery and it is deadly to bugs. I can't offer any experience with this, but certainly would not hesitate to try it. The website will tell you all about what it does. Just make it a good thick layer everywhere so they have no choice but to go through that. Guest guest
For fire ants, DE works. And also uncooked grits. ~*~ Hugs ~*~ Akiba ~*~ ~*~ Pragmatic Visionary ~*~ http://www.affiliates-natural-salt-lamps.com/idevaffiliate.php?id=156 -- Re: Dianne…bugs If you have not considered this and still have trouble in a few months, I would get diatomaceous earth from earthworkshealth.com and go nuts spreading a thick layer of that everywhere you can think of. Guest guest
It'll be wet here for the next 6 months! I'll keep the D:E for ants til next dry spell. Jane in rainy Vic SE Oz ________________ The DE also works to keep snakes away. Supposedly, it gets in between their scales and drives 'em nuts. DE is totally safe but if I remember correctly, the DE needs to be refreshed when it gets wet (getting rained on out in the elements). Guest guest
I have used 10 lbs of DE on these very same ants. I think they thrive on it. Guest guest
Here in Ohio we get carpenter ants. Boric Acid or Borax is said to desiccate them. We put a line of Lemon Ajax dish soap around the perimeter first, and then a small line of powder. Seems the two have to occur together to get the stuff to stick. Very successful nontoxic cheap fix. Might be the same w/ DE ..?? ---tls Re: Dianne…bugs I have used 10 lbs of DE on these very same ants. I think they thrive on it. Guest guest
the big home stores now have products that take out the ant hills. We get the carpenter ants and little red ants. Only used it on the carpenters thus far. You just put the very small pellets around the opening for the hill and in a few days, you will see almost no ants. The hill is dead in a couple more days. The stuff is taken in and put in their food supply where everyone, including the queen all die. I went around and marked the hills so I could find them all when the ants weren't out (2.5 acres). Put the pellets around the whole with a spoon and that is it. It doesn't take a lot. I must have taken out about 35 hills. This year, the ants are starting to open up new transplanted hills and so far, I have maybe 5 or 6 on the property. May treat them but I think I will be dragging the property first so I will probably wait until the beginning of June to treat the hills. > > Here in Ohio we get carpenter ants. > Boric Acid or Borax is said to desiccate them.
