I really didn't put two and two together with one symptom my granddaugter had while taking Miralax and a few weeks after going off it. Her skin on her hands started peeling. It stopped after a short time off the Miralax. However, she started chewing on her fingers because of this problem and she still chews on them now (4 months off Miralax) even though they stopped peeling. She is obsessed with any little skin or hang-nail she can see. Thank you to this horrible drug for giving her so many issues. KaySubject: Re: Help with weaning off MiralaxTo: "miralax "

Hi , and welcome! For my DD who I started to wean off then took her off cold turkey, I took her meals back to infant foods. She was 26 months at the time and had been on Miralax for 8.5 months (since she was almost 18 months). We fed her Happy Bellies cereals with probiotics and mixed in Gerber organic prune purees into her cereal. At that time, she would also eat that straight. Her father made her soup (I can get you the recipe if you are interested) and that's what she had for lunch every day. We took her off milk completely and kept her on her formula which had probiotics. We fed her Activia yogurt - 1 container a day. We pushed water her on her often. I have since added vitamin C gummies and Culturell probiotics

which I mix into her lactose-free milk every day. I also give her Aloe juice which I purchased at Whole Foods - she drinks that straight. We also give her ONLY whole wheat everything (pastas, bread, pancakes, etc). I make her lactose-free ice cream at home. I pushed mango or papaya on her when the fruits were in season. When we do "cheat" - i.e. she has cake or a cupcake or pizza at a birthday party, I up the other stuff that helps her go such as the pro-b's and the vitamin C. I make sure that she has a movement everyday. If she skips a day, I make sure to help her go the 2nd day. When we took her off cold turkey, we had some REALLY difficult weeks at first. Going #2 was extremely painful for her. If she were withholding or didn't go for whatever reason, we administered Fleet's children's enema, the small glycerine bulb, by the morning of the 3rd

day, and that usually had her going within 15-20 minutes. Administering it and the subsequent BM were always traumatic while they lasted - for all of us. One time, her feces came into contact with her bum for a very brief time and she looked like she had 2nd degree burns from hot water or something. I believe that as she was eliminating the Miralax, she may have been experiencing a burning sensation because she would cry the whole time as she was eliminating, even when the poo was soft. I wish you luck and fortitude. It's a long and not easy road getting off Miralax for many of us, but it's SO worth it.Lillu To: miralax Sent: Friday, June 1, 2012 12:25 PM Subject: Help with weaning off Miralax

Hi everyone,

I'm so glad I found this group! I would like to ask for your help in trying to wean my daughter off Miralax. She is 3 and half and has been on Miralax for 6 months. She has been taking 1 tablespoon everyday in her milk.

She has a bowel movement every day to every other day and no longer complains about going to the bathroom.

I did not realize that Miralax could be so dangerous!

I am trying to figure out a plan to wean her from the Miralax in a safe and natural way.

I just started eliminating dairy from her diet since I've heard it can be very constipating. If that's the cause, will eliminating the dairy be enough to solve the constipation?

Thank you so much!!

Sincerely,

Is this not the most frightening thing, EVER? This is exactly the behavior I'm talking about.................Thank you for sharing, our dd did the same thing and her fingers peeled many years later? Anyone seen obsessive chewing on toys, trinkets, pencils, plastic things? Obsessive picking at things? I know a child that

picked every piece of carpeting out in a 1 foot diameter circle, while staring at the tv like a zombie for 4 straight hours after taking PEG........... To: miralax Sent: Mon, June 4, 2012 12:09:01 PMSubject: burning issues
