gluten-free thyroid medications

Most thyroid meds are gluten-free! That doctor that said only a couple thyroid

meds are gluten-free is simply wrong - uninformed!

The synthetic T4 drugs that are verified gluten-free are: Tirosint, Unithroid,

Levoxyl and Forest's Levothroid. The generic L-T4 made by Mylan Pharm is also

gluten-free as well as Lannett's generic levothyroxine made by Jerome s

Pharm and Mova Pharm's Levo-T.

Abbott Pharm, the maker of Synthroid says they cannot guarantee the gluten-free

status of Synthroid because they do *NOT* test the additives they put into it

for gluten. Also, some generic T4 drug makers say this, too.

The synthetic T3 drug Cytomel is gluten-free. Not sure about the liothyronine

sodium generics except for Mylan Pharm, they make their T3 gluten-free.

Also, natural desiccated thyroid is gluten-free aka Armour, NatureThroid and

Erfa Canada.

I have a list of most, if not all, thyroid meds inactive ingredients. Let me

know if you want it and I will look for it and post it in the files

section of this group.

Gluten may not be the only thing to consider in a thyroid drug, there is a long

list of chemical coloring agents in the T4 drugs (except for the 50 mcg tablets

contains NONE), the coloring agents include yellow, blue, red, and aluminum lake

in most of these drugs.

Hope this helps,

~Bj
