We have contacted so many different TV shows and are basicall ignored.  I guess

we aren't interesting enough.  I sent a request to The Doctors Show....

www.thedoctorstvshow.com copied below.  What do you think?  Maybe a few more

emails!  Keep it short.

Why does it take so long for unknown diseases to be recognized?

I was diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis 19 years ago. I was blessed with a

doctor who recognized it as a real disease when IC was not considered a real

disease. Many women were told it was all in their heads and to take

antidepressants. As a result some committed suicide, jobs were lost and

marriages were ruined.

Curiously, I had additional symptoms that could not be labeled.  After

suffering with weird unexplained symptoms I was diagnosed with Atrial

Fibrillation that did not respond to Lopressor and Antiarrhythmic drugs. I lived

with the discomfort and pain and did not seek further diagnosis. When I lost the

ability to move my left side I sought treatment. We discovered I had Arnold

Chiari Malformation, Fibromyalgia and Syringomyelia.  Again I had enlightened

doctors who pushed for the decompression surgery. I was lucky...but I went

through some resistance from others in the medical profession. I had a doctor

tell me I was depressed and that Chiari and Syringomyelia cause zero symptoms

that we were basically head cases....pun intended.

Chiari is still not a recognized disability. Many of my Chiari buddies are

brushed aside.  We have so many side affects that we tend not to discuss them

because the proverbial anti-depressant catch all solution.

We need a voice.  We need Chiari to be recognized and treated before more end

up disabled or worse. Again marriages are ruined, jobs are lost and insurance is

cancelled. Since I was diagnosed there has been more information

available...still not enough.  It takes years to recognize a disease as valid.

But many suffer in the wait.

How do we get the word out and educate the medical profession?

  Thank you Charmaine s
