Guest guest
, In all my time reading and interacting with thyroid sufferers, I have yet to come across anyone in the UK who has had an iodine loading test - and am not sure if I have heard of any individual having it done. (That is, only in the context of research studies - a recent one suggesting that teenage girls in the UK are probably deficient. And reports of research, etc.) - Of course, memory could be playing tricks. I always worry about the advice thrown at everyone that they should take iodine because they have a thyroid disorder. Thyroid Manager is clear that the safe range is quite narrow - and needs to be observed even more carefully after prolonged deficiency. But if people did get tested, then they could sensibly supplement in a controlled and safe manner. Which would be good. So the sooner someone comes up with a really inexpensive, home-test for iodine the better. (Please don't anyone suggest the utterly discredited skin patch test.) Guest guest
Hi Lois - no problem at all, so glad you found it helpful. You mentioned a video before - was there a video on the page? I think the study/ article presents just a theory, just fyi... I don't think people know for sure it's correct. But I'm glad you found it interesting enough to follow up with your healthcare practitioner and maybe do some tests. Please keep us posted. Oh and Rod - agreed about the iodine. It's a slippery slope - but I wonder how they found out that low iodine causes goiters anyway? > > > > Interesting article and theory about Selenium deficiency and the relationship to gluten + malabsorption: > > > > http://www.glutenfreesociety.org/gluten-free-society-blog/gluten-and-thryoid-hor\ mone-is-there-a-connection/ > > > > Saw they mentioned an Iodine loading test (urine) - anyone have this done?
