How do you take the G.S.E.? The liquid I have would be kind

of difficult to get down. I've used it externally for various

reasons. -Biz

ok,

so we are on the same page (which is often hard for me to find). the grape

seed extract is what we are talking about that is as good or better and

cheaper, then pyc. right. if so, that is a good deal. maybe should try

that.

i use a veggy mayonnaise (allergic to eggs) that is made with grape seed

oil and it is good. expensive, but good. does that count for the immune

system?

Well, you'd have to consume a LOT of mayo with grape seed   oil.  I use a grape

seed oil for cooking, but I don't count that, but it's good and healthy.

yes, and i don't use a lot of it. so will go with the extract.

i mainly use coconut oil for cooking. love the flavor. also, when i make

popcorn, i use a lot of it melted on it. just like they used to make it in

the old days in the theaters. today, though the stuff they pop it in still

has coconut oil, it is less, and more canola/soy oils. the butter you can

add on top of it is just butter 'flavored' canola. we quit buying it at

the theater. it is so hard walking past that smell, but with the flavor

less and the price more, it makes it easier.

Joyce,

same here. i know my family gets tired of me always preaching coconut oil.

but i do it anyway. if they would just do it right i wouldn't have to

keep telling them.

Ditto here. We use CO, Butter, or Olive Oil. I would use lard before

using some of the cooking oils as at least it is organic (or used to be?)

we had ordered a hog (meat) and just talked to the butcher the other day.

she asked if i wanted the lard. i asked what for. she said she uses it

for pie crust and frying. she explained how to process it, cooking it down

and skimming, cube it and freeze for use as needed. i remember my mom had

a 'grease container' that was kept on the stove and used when she fried

food. that is how it always used to be before crisco.

she said the lard makes the best pie crust and it doesn't go bad with high

heat as veg. oils do in frying. this is an organic raised pork so am kind

of excited to try the lard.

Barbara... you lucky ducky to have access to organically produced lard. I

hated giving up my Crisco because it is just hard to do/cook some things

with anything else. But lard will sure fill the bill for you. Supposedly,

Hardee's fried their fried chicken in lard for years (I knew there was some

reason I loved their chicken..lol) until the fat police got after them.

To me, lard falls in the same catagory as butter. That is.. it is still

healthier than most things out there but I use butter sparingly, perfering

to use coconut oil most of the time and using olive oil once in a while.

But... coconut oil on a fresh, home-made bisquit just doesn't cut it like a

hot busquit with butter and organic honey.

They say nothing makes bisquits, fried chicken (or porkchops), milk

gravy and pie crusts like lard. Do keep it in the freezer so it doesn't

get rancid on you and enjoy !!! Lola H.

ps... you aren't anywhere in Va., are you? I would love to find a souce

for organically raised pork. We used to have an old fella here in the

county who would butcher and wrap our beef and he sold pork roasts, chops

and sausage also. But noone else in the county 'stepped up' when he passed

away a few yrs back.

i think i mentioned it before-can never remember-but i use lots of coconut

oil on air popped pop corn. sooooo goooood.

mcdonalds used to do their fries in lard until the vegetarians complained.

too bad because what you have now is so much worse for your health. my

step daughter's family gave up meat for health reasons, yet consume gmo

soy (they didn't know about gmo) and the stuff that is worse for them. i

know many do it for the 'humane' element, understand, but it is so hard to

do something healthy with the alternative.

theaters used to use the coc. oil and palm oil in popcorn, but changed

because of the manufactured fear of saturated fats so the chem/food

industry could sell their fake/plastic/gmo oils and margarine. too bad.

now, the cost is high for coc. oil so they sub canola oil and butter

flavored oil at the theaters. we gave up our love of their popcorn because

the quality went down and price went up. so hard as you walk past that

counter.

oh, for the good old, natural saturated fat days.

there is a site in wa state called 'eat wild washington' where i found my

sources. you may have one in your state as i understand they do other

states. if not, go on line and google your area and what meat you want.

also, check craig's list, and the classified. good luck

Thanks for the suggestion, Barbara.. I will ck and see if we have any

sources for organic meats locally.

I laughed at your comment " oh, for the good old, natural saturated fat

days. " So true!!

We didn't realize how 'healthy' we were eating back then. Remember

Cheracol cough syrup? Remember how yummy it tasted? My mom used to have

to hide it from us kids to make sure we didn't sneak it for the

taste..lol. I had heard that 'they' have banned the natural cherry

flavoring used in Cheracol? .. sad if true. Lola H.

ya know, today, those natural flavors are probably not approved by the fda

(or they didn't pay their fee).

my mom used to give us a liquid vitamin we called 'sunshine'. we also used

to sneak more because it tasted so good. don't know if they knew how to

make the synthetic then.

at that same time, we live on a beautiful lake in w. wa, called lk.

sammamish. we used to get our drinking water directly from the lake

through a pike and pump. now days you'd die if you drank the water. so

sad. they were fun day.

ya know, today,  those natural flavors are probably not approved by the fda

(or they didn't pay their fee).

my mom used to give us a liquid vitamin we called 'sunshine'.  we also used

to sneak more because it tasted so good.  don't know if they knew how to

make the synthetic then.

at that same time, we live on a beautiful lake in w. wa, called lk.

sammamish.  we used to get our drinking water directly from the lake

through a pike and pump.  now days you'd die if you drank the water.  so

sad.  they were fun day.

I've done a fair bit of research on the cholesterol issue, and my

current belief is that LDL isn't bad (it's necessary actually!) but that

one subset of LDL (Lipoprotein-A) is the real issue, and even then, it's

only if you're lacking in other nutrients (Vit C, Arginine, Proline,

Lysine, B6 etc) that it 'might' then be an issue.

I take whole eggs and many of them, because I believe them to be a near

complete whole food. That said, I get my eggs from a friend and I can

see the chickens that make them and I know what they eat. They are

usually smaller than what I see in local markets and brand name

supermarkets, and the yolks are more orange than yellow, very firm, and

don't taste/smell of fish (because they're not fed on fishmeal like many

are). They are given extra iodine. We've tried giving them a wide

range of different foods, and they seem to know what they like if given

a choice. Surprisingly they don't seem to like vegetable matter

(peelings, fruit skins etc). We leave it to their own intellegence

rather than force feeding them with something industrial. They also

produce at a rate that is much higher than would be expected.

There does seem to be a correlation between a happy chicken with lots of

space to roam as they wish, and the egg they produce. That shouldn't be

surprising I suppose, but it was surprising to me to see how direct the

correlation was with the look and taste of a nice egg and the freedom

and happiness of the chicken. I think I'd be reluctant to eat

supermarket eggs now unless it was the only thing available, now that

I've seen the difference.

Guest guest

paul,

i agree fully. we used to raise chicken/eggs. it was always exciting to

go out to the barn and 'pick up' our breakfast eggs. they never agreed

with me, nor with my daughter. however, i seem to be able to tolerate them

better as i'v aged.

for those who buy organic at the store. i compared a costco org. with a

local commercial org. and costco's yoke was darker. that was a surprise.

best to buy from a local small farmer if possibble.

This is a comment from a friend on another health board:

(((I question that arachidonic acid, in meat, egg yolks and dairy, automatically

causes inflammation.)))

As much as I " hurt/ache " every morning when I get out of bed, I'm going to have

2 eggs this morning.....

you must be allergic to Eggs, Joyce, as they don't do that to everybody.

I nearly lived on them at one point when I was really sick... the only protein

I cd tolerate.

Egg whites in particular cause the problem, since vaccines use eggwhite as

culture.

when I worked w/ the autistic kids, this was a huge issue; many were intolerant.

I don't believe I'm allergic, it's all the info out there on the

anaraonic(sp)acid in the yolk that concerns me, re Inflammation....
