GlaxoKline has agreed to plead guilty to misdemeanour criminal charges

and pay $3bn to settle what government officials describe as the largest

case of healthcare fraud in US history.

The agreement, which still needs court approval, would resolve allegations

that the British drug maker broke US laws in the marketing and development

of pharmaceuticals. The terms of the settlement were announced in November.

GSK targeted the antidepressant Paxil at patients under age 18 when it was

approved only for adults, and promoted the drug Wellbutrin for uses it was

not approved for, including weight loss and treatment of sexual dysfunction,

according to a US justice department investigation.

The company went to extreme lengths to promote the drugs, such as

distributing a misleading medical journal article and providing doctors with

meals and spa treatments that amounted to illegal kickbacks, prosecutors

said.

" The sales force bribed physicians to prescribe GSK products using every

imaginable form of high-priced entertainment, from Hawaiian vacations [and]

paying doctors millions of dollars to go on speaking tours, to tickets to

Madonna concerts, " said US attorney Carmin Ortiz.

In a third case, GSK failed to give the US Food and Drug Administration

safety data about its diabetes drug Avandia, in violation of US law,

prosecutors said.

The misconduct began in the late 1990s and continued, in the case of

Avandia's safety data, through to 2007. GSK agreed to plead guilty to three

misdemeanour criminal counts, one each related to the three drugs.

Guilty pleas in cases of alleged corporate misconduct are exceedingly rare,

making GSK's agreement especially unusual.

My question is where do these fines go? Is it just our government benefiting

Perhaps it is because GSK is headquartered in another country, they got

tagged for what every big pharma company does routinely. In the fleecing

of america, our congressman took office with a net value of two and half

million, now eight years later, he is valued at eighty five million, on a

salary of less than two hundred thousand annually.

I think most businesses model their activities, ie like congressional

lobbiest in washington dc.

Wellbutrin is very helpful for weight loss, stop smoking, and will counter

the loss of libido from other anti depressants, that purportedly increase

serotonin. Butrin increases dopamine levels, which tend to mirror

testosterone levels, so very helpful for ED.

I believe the thing these criminals have taken from us, is hope that good will

win over evil.  I believe evil is winning   How many elderly people consume

10-20

different medications each day, all with side effects, while stripping the body

of nutrients, such as statins and CQ10,  People are literally dying from taking

cocktails of legal drugs each day.  No cures except expensive ones, such as

cancer, MS, etc..  I had a doctor tell me, " medicine is a business " , and he is

right,

healing or quality of life is not the issue.  And the patients just keep on

giving them more business.  It  should be called keep em sick health care.

It's very pathetic and our health care, keep em sick system, pays for these

drugs and they all get richer and the others keep getting worse....a horrible

vicious cycle.

 

I'm a 74 senior and see only integrative MD's, who treat with supps first and

drug if needed.....I'm not  your " normal " senior out there....

 

Thank goodness I've opened my mind 20 some yrs ago and found integrative MD's in

my city who accept Medicare....

 

These drugs are POISON for the most part....

 

My sister with advanced MS, listended to the NYC specialists and took every

imaginable injection, infusion, drug they pushed on her to " stop the

progression " , and she only progressed with the disease....

 

She takes nothing now, only supplements she says....They've spent many $1000's

on pharma drugs and she's only worse...
