Guest guest
After I survived my first experience of Sudden Cardiac Death Syndrome in 1983 and basically told to just go out and live a " normal " life, I did and tried not to think about the fact that the next time I experienced an event it might be my last. I really felt like there couldn't have been a worse card delt. Things have been good for the most part, until a few weeks ago when I went to the doctor to talk about why I was drinking what seemed like gallons of water and soda pop's with clearly no end insite. The effects were generally good as I was loosing weight, and I figured that was great as I had been dieting to no avail for many years and in fact after being frustrated with no significant weight loss I would go back to eating everythjing in sight and gain more weight. The need for great amounts of liquid really started around January, so I started really getting into the water thing and I was loosing the weight, but my mouth was constantly dry, when I ran out of water I would go to the soda machine and get a 20 oz Coke and it would be gone in a couple of slugs and I would still have the pasty dry mouth. Then I would be up all night going to the bathroom, or twenty minutes after having 8 to 10 ounces of water I would go to the bathroom. I figured I might as well move my office to the bathroom as I spending more time there than at my desk. A visit to the doctor brought some startling result. He did a sugar test and found that my blood sugar was sitting at 480. He immediately put me on a drug called Glucotrol, which I found out I was allergic to. The allergic reaction was a good case of hives that poped out during a weekly staff meeting. Lots of fun ;-{) I am now taking a drug called Precose. I must say that so far the result has been better. The blood sugar has come down significantly, I tested last week at 134. My real question is that while I can see my computer screen with not much problem, I have a great deal of trouble reading anyting unless I am at least 4+ feet away from it or use a magnifying glass. My doctor tells me that this is temporary, but what does temporary really mean? Heck when I was in the Navy, I stayed in Barracks that were built as temporary buildings in WW I and were still being used in 1999. So you get my drift. You can sign me the newbe. My opthamologist said 1 day or more over 300 BG will cause sugar to accumulate in your eyes and it'll take 3 weeks to clear once the BG drops... That's exactly the way mine worked out... I got control of the bg's and vision has returned but I did have to get a new prescription for my glasses...
Guest guest
I was diagnosed just before Thanksgiving, and my eyesight was so blurry I thought I was going blind. The doctors also told me to give it time to clear up, and I asked how much time. They said it varied with different people, but could be as much as three months. By the end of the year my vision was back to normal. I can always tell when my bg is high because my vision immediately goes blurry again - like this week when I've been battling a cold. Ugh. Hang in there Lynn

Guest guest
Hi Dawn, Before I discovered my low carb diet, I had that trouble too with vision getting blurry when bg's were up. Did you know you can change your font's to a larger size if you are having trouble seeing them? Can also make them Bold. Guest guest
--FROM:DAWNW@... I THOUGHT I HAD JUST ANSWER YOUR LETTER BUT I GUESS NOT, SORRY ABOUT THAT. DID YOUR DR PUT YOU ON AN ADA FOOD PLAN? DID HE/SHE SIGN YOU UP FOR A WEEK OF DIABETES INSTRUCTION? MOST INS. WILL PAY FOR IT AND IT COVERS A LOT OF MATERIAL ALL AT ONCE. ARE YOU SEEING A SPECIALIST? WHEN MY SUGARS ARE BOUNCIMNG AROUND MY VISION GETS BLURRY BUT IT DOES NOT USUALLY LAST FOR DAYS. I DO GET VERY TIRED AND AT TIMES HEADACHES THAT DO NOT USUALLY GO UNTIL MY SUGAR GOES BACK TO NORMAL RANGE. IT DOES GET EASIER OVER TIME. ANY OTHER QUESTIONS ASK AWAY . I AM SURE SOMEOMEONE WILL TRY TO FIND YOU AN ASWER. > > >> <<<My real question is that while I can see my computer screen with not much >> problem, I have a great deal of trouble reading anyting unless I am at least >> 4+ feet away from it or use a magnifying glass.
