I ran across a very interesting statement from Dr. Natasha -McBride's 90 minute lecture on GAPS (Gut and Psychology Syndrome) that applies to GERDS and I don't see why it couldn't relate to HH as well. From my transcription, I'll just paste the whole section she talked about on digestive enzymes since she discusses HCL and stomach acid per se, which we've been batting around. For those of you not familiar with Natasha, she's Russian, a medical doctor practicing in the UK, who was a neurologist/neurological surgeon until she had a son who became autistic. She then went back and got a second postgrad degree in human nutrition and has developed this precise nutritional program of her own diet and therapeutic strength probiotics that cured her son of autism. This has been quite successful in treating other children (and adults) with the same and a wide variety of similar neurological disorders. I found her work fascinating and it certainly made sense. I've pretty much left the transcription in her own words which reflect her Russian language influence. Here's the section I'm referring to.... " Digestive Enzymes. This is again a temporary crutch because we want the child's digestive system to restore its natural ability to produce digestive enzymes. We don't want to make the child rely on digestive enzymes forever. So in the initial stages they're helpful, but not for everybody. I don't prescribe them for everybody. In adults who have burping, who have indigestion, they have to have a supplement or stomach acid. That's what HCL and pepsin is, or there's another supplement on the market called betaine HCL. Betaine HCL. It is basically a stomach acid supplement. A lot of people in this world do not produce enough stomach acid. They have low stomach acidity. This is the people who get indigestion, heartburn. And what are they advised to take? Antacids to reduce that acid even further. What they need is stomach acid. They need to prop it up and their indigestion will disappear much quicker without antacids. Antacids are also full of aluminum and many other toxic substances which accumulate in the body and it's only a temporary relief. What happens in people with low stomach acidity, the majority of GAPS patients cannot produce enough stomach acid because pathogenic flora in their digestive tract impairs the stomach's ability to produce acid. Stomach acid is the first barrier to any pathogen that gets into our digestive system with food and drink. Stomach acid destroys a lot of them because it has to be quite acid in there. If there isn't enough stomach acid in there, there isn't enough acid produced then all sorts of pathogens start growing on the wall of the stomach itself. As they grow around the sphincter between the esophagus and the stomach, they produce certain toxins which paralyze that sphincter so the sphincter doesn't close properly. It's open slightly, so the person gets reflux. Whose baby has reflux? Anybody in this hall? There you go, a few people, their babies have reflux. It means that the baby has abnormal flora sitting in the stomach which paralyze the sphincter and as a result, the sphincter is open, it will not close. The esophagus is alkaline, so when the stomach produces acid..it always has some acid..so if that amount of acid spills into the esophagus through this open valve, it burns. It's very unpleasant, it's very painful. That's what heartburn is. So what you need is more stomach acid to kill the bacteria and remove it. You need probiotics to remove the pathogenic flora. Once they are removed, the sphincter closes. The paralysis disappears and the reflux goes away and the indigestion goes away.<< I recommend watching the whole lecture as it's full of such enlightening information about the development in utero, birth and subsequent influences of the microbes and toxins infants start life with and how they effect both the body and the mind of the child. One can certainly begin to see why she says that the gut rules the brain and not the other way around. >>We also has heavily fluoridated water, which is no friend to anybody. << That really multiplies the impact which few understand. Dr. Yiamouyiannis directly relates stomach disorders and pain to the inhibition of digestive enzymes by F. Dr. Sauerheber states: " Combine H2SF4 (Fluoride additive) with HCl (stomach acid) and you've created fluoricic acid. He goes on, ... silicofluoride is composed of and breaks down into hydrogen fluoride in the acidic stomach. I'll add that most people aren't aware that sodium fluoride is not the drug of choice for water fluoridation anymore, but is generally either hydro- or hexafluosilicic acid, a far more contaminated contaminant poison, the source usually being from China now and not regulated. I won't go further down that road here. Suffice it to say, F may well be the primary source in all of our disorders/diseases. >> It really didn't like acidic stuff for a number of years. Oddly, until my colon therapist mentioned it, I never knew I had it. Maybe he shd have kept his mouth shut, eh?? lol. Power of suggestion? Both my parents went to some gasto for an office procedure that was more expensive and exotic than this. Doubt it was any better. --tls<< Likely insignificant bandaids. Guest guest
If you have troubled with your gut, you probably have allergies to gluten and cassein. After years of food allergies, ability of body to make HCL is compromised, also the antiacids deplete HCL...
