Guest guest
Hi, I am new here! I just have a few questions that maybe able to point me in the right direction on .I have been going through the typical illness associated with breathing asper/pen and stacky in a home for a number of years before discovering it( it slowly made me more and more ill ). I know of Dr Shoemaker and Dr Rae and have been considering others to go to as well.I wonder if any of you have had luck with your insurance paying for mold testing and treatment??? 1. I was of the belief from my own experience that a prolonged or " long enough " exposure to toxic mold will make anyone sick. . . I know this would vary from person to person and follow the other variables A-G that Dr Shoemaker(I found his writings to be the best Ive seen in years of reading) identified in his blog entry post called " progress in mold " where he identifies other factors that contribute to make people sick besides fungal in a sick building. I say this because I was totally normal and could deal with anything before living in this home for years before I found the mold and got ill enough. I recently read article at Dr Shoemakers site that these Gene susceptable people are the only ones that get sick which sort of differs from my finding from my own experience???It will be so interesting to finally find out if I am also multi Gene susceptable as well! I read on Lillard web site, I'm not really sure who she is but her web site is pretty well written, " that exposure to t2 mycotoxins found in many types of indoor molds will poison anyone in time " .The reason I ask is my 72 year old mother just moved into a home that is loaded with mold (I cant even go in for a minute without getting sick) and my family seems to think its fine and I am the only one who gets sick from mold.I am very worried. If anyone knows anymore about this it would help me greatly! 2. Also, I am trying to explain to my family why I am so hypersensitive to mold now since my original exposure so I have been looking for good articles/research that would explain how hypersensitive we " moldies " become after a bad exposure. Any good examples from you or stories would help too!!They dont understand the whole deal. . . .I have trouble riding in the same car as my mother now and could list tons of other examples of getting reactions to small amounts of mold. Thanks so much, Bob Fla/NY
Guest guest
Hi Bob, I will search for anything I might have saved, that might explain what you are going through, to your family and friends. But, take my advice, and don't waste your time trying to educate your loved ones about your new health " reality " . THEY WILL NEVER BELIEVE YOU, or ANY printed examples of other people going through the same thing that you are going through. As you go through life, you will notice that it takes an ever-decreasing amount of mold exposure and/or chemical exposure, to make you sick, where previously it took a large exposure to make you sick. As you start complaining, to your loved ones, about this fact, they will only shake their heads, and think, or say, " Poor Bob, he is getting crazier every day-he used to be just a little crazy, but NOW he's completely nuts. " Just focus your energy on learning enough to modify your lifestyle enough to minimize your suffering. Believe me when I tell you that this is a full-time job. You will find that you don't have enough energy, or patience, to convert the " non-believers " . Unfortunately, I know a few people who are still trying to make their loved ones " see the light " , instead of focusing on their own health. Even though our long-term salvation depends on the rest of the world understanding what we are going through, it is foolish to use up our depleted energy reserves to fight EVERY fight. Choose your battles carefully, and always remember that the goal should always be to regain as much of our health as possible, NOT to make ourselves sicker by worrying why those closest to us can not see what is obvious to us. Best of Luck. Joe
Guest guest
Joe gives you good advice! I used to try to convince people, but I finally learned that it was a waste of time. I also used to think that it wasn't possible to be exposed to toxic mold again. I was wrong. As one example, I was in a Sharper Image store a few weeks ago and became very ill within a few minutes. It took me several days to recover.
