Hello,

My 7 year old daughter was prescribed Miralax after she complained of belly

pain. She was just getting over an UTI with antibiotics so the doctor said she

must be constipated...give her miralax. A week later she was miserable,

lethargic, crying complaining 24/7 that her belly hurt. We ended up in the ER

where they did an Xray showing constipation, and two enemas. They sent her home

on 2 capfuls for three days and then remain on one capful for 6 months. I was a

bit concerned because this goes against the bottle.

Needless to say, her stomach pain intensified and she missed an entire week of

school. We were sent to a pediatric GI doctor who prescribed a colon cleanse:

4 CAPFULS of miralax as well as 4 tsp of Senkolat oral laxative in a 12 hour

period.

My husband and I both felt this was too much and checked with our peditrician

who said it was fine from a medical standpoint.

My daughter got more miserable and the pain seemed worse. We did not do the

cleanse.

By mistake missed a day of Miralax and she seemed so much better. Her

ultrasound showed a lot of intestional gas and I felt she was dehydrated

leading to increased lethargicness.

We have now stopped miralax and the difference with her in 24 hours is amazing.

She is riding her bike and playing, back at school and her color is better. I

have no doubt that it was the miralax making her feel so terrible.

We are giving her fiber gummies and lots of water and she is pooping just fine

now.

No more miralax for us!
