In the past, I've recommended Mel Batholemew's soil based " Square Foot

Gardening " (SFG) as an efficient way for one to grow one's own food plants.

This nifty airoponics system just came to my attention. My gut feel is that the

Tower Garden is more innitially expensive, however, one benefits from its tower

design. Mel's basic design is the 4'x4' raised bed, with upto 16 growing

squares. The Tower appears to be @ 2.5'x2.5' with upto 20

growing sites. SFG states more food plants, where the Tower states less, but,

does include edible flowers. SFG uses easily obtainable fertilizer, whereas the

Tower uses proprietary liquids. With SFG, one can grow all organic. The Tower

sells their own " gourmet seeds " . Given the holiday, I haven't been able to get

more information from the Tower folks. I'll wait until next week.

My gut feel is that SFG needs more attention than the Tower. Where one doesn't

have land and / or has age and / or physical limitations, the Tower seems to be

the better choice, providing that more than the stated plants can be grown.
