Guest guest
we do one a day. but i also tried that probiotic drink - GOOD BELLY over the weekend. on top of the wafers. lilah (almost 4 YO) LOVED LOVED LOVED the strawberry one. you can get a big carton or the individual little ones. she likes the individual ones - they are fun for the kids to hold. she had a HUGE poop last night. i think it was the extra probiotics. i also take probiotics 3x/day - even though the one i take - healthy trinity - calls for 1x/day - but i have been battling nasty thrush for my entire pregnancy now (i am 35 weeks along). was told by a bunch of people that i can do it 3x/day instead - and i don't think i am od'ing on probiotics. that plus no flour (white or brown), no white rice, no sugar, and only a small amount of fruit AND applying gentian violet to my tongue every night finally seem to be getting a grip on the yeast! oh - and i must say (i know this is off topic) but since i cut out the flour i have no more swelling in my ankles. my face isn't bloated and i feel SO much better. i am a tad but cranky. but then again, i am 35 weeks pregnant, so i am supposed to be cranky! oh - and i want donuts and pizza and quesadillas and everything else i can't have! but it is worth it! good luck. my son is 3. i have been giving him one per day, but wondering if that is not enough. is it possible to overdose on probiotics?thanks, kelly

Guest guest
hi jeannie, i am not sure if it was helping, but i do know that i missed some days. i did have to clean him out over the weekend b/c he was holding it in again. i talked to my mom, who gets very backed up from calcium supps. she said that it took about a month for the probiotics to kick in, but she never missed a day taking it. i know i did miss a few days here and there. she said that the health food store where she gets her probiotics from told her that you cant really overdose on probiotics. the bottle of kirkmans says 1-2 tablets daily, so i upped him to 2 tablets for now. how long until probiotics made a difference for your little one? kelly > > > Subject: how many kirkman's chewable pro-bio wafers can you give a day? > To: miralax > Date: Monday, December 1, 2008, 10:23 AM > > > > > > > my son is 3. i have been giving him one per day, but wondering if that > is not enough. is it possible to overdose on probiotics? > > thanks, kelly >
Guest guest
, one thing with probiotics, people think they aren't working because there isn't immediate results. It takes time to build the bacteria bed back as does with a salt water tank. (It takes 9 weeks to cycle a tank) you have to realize that the bacteria probably isn't making it all the way to the colon yet, and is getting stuck in the poop back up. It's probably fine to up it to two tablets but this is something that sometimes you don't notice a result right away but over a couple weeks, you'll be surprised! Then before you know it, they are going without anything at all........................... Guest guest
thanks jeanie. i am really going to keep at it and keep him on 2 tablets a day, at least for a couple weeks. i just ordered more kirkmans so that i dont run short and have to miss days. i think you are right. my mom said it really has helped her but it took a good month for it to kick in. she said that one day she just realized that she hadnt needed prune juice in awhile. i hope it works for my son too. kelly > > > > From: kellyocee <kellyocee@ ..> > > Subject: how many kirkman's chewable pro-bio wafers can > you give a day? > > To: miralax@yahoogroups .com > > Date: Monday, December 1, 2008, 10:23 AM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > my son is 3. i have been giving him one per day, but wondering if > that > > is not enough. is it possible to overdose on probiotics? > > > > thanks, kelly > > >

Guest guest
hey there kelly. I am not personally aware of any limits, and have taken more than 2 per day myself while on antibiotics. Anything out of balance is bad - but I'm not sure it's a "real" risk that your colon would become over-colonzied with good bacteria unless you were taking tons of them, never took antibiotics, etc. I have absolutely no concerns about two per day - but I wanted to ask because I am always learning and I thought someone else might know. Guest guest
As far as I know it is very difficult to take to many good bacteria! Im sure someone could but this would be very hard! Daily things constantly kill off the good bacteria, it is a constant battle with todays life styles and processed foods, sugar, carbohydrates, chlorinated tap water, pesticides, stress, metals, plastics etc etc etc. Even good needed foods/supplements can kill them. Now I have heard of some children getting hyper when they take them but I suspect this is the gut upset with the bad stuff and well pass once balance is there. Any gi upset/change well cause behaiviour/energy levels to act up or down. To much? This is something we all need to check into deeper, but still suspect this would be difficult to OD on them with norm daily amounts. Guest guest
i did some research online this morning, and everything i read said that it would be pretty much impossible to OD on probiotics. i am going to stick with 2 wafers a day for now. i had given my son some laxatives and mineral oil over the weekend to clean him out. i thought maybe that stripped him of a lot of good bacteria, so that is why i upped him to 2 per day. i dont know. i wish i coud figure this out. thanks for your input, kelly > > > > > > > > From: kellyocee <kellyocee@ ..> > > > > Subject: how many kirkman's chewable pro-bio wafers > can > > > you give a day? > > > > To: miralax@yahoogroups .com > > > > Date: Monday, December 1, 2008, 10:23 AM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > my son is 3. i have been giving him one per day, but > wondering if > > > that > > > > is not enough. is it possible to overdose on probiotics? > > > > > > > > thanks, kelly > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
Your doing good!! Yes this can be flustrating sometimes but it usually starts to make sense/become easier as we work through it per individual child, cuz some things work better for others some for our children! I wouldnt use mineral oil unless absolutely neccessary( many other things for cleanout). The mineral oil coats the intestines and causes more issues. What is the bacteria count on your wafers? Also once in wafer form not to many are going to still be alive so the count most likely well descrease after using and stomach acid well kill off most of the bacteria, so you really dont have to worry to much on taking to much. Guest guest
, just like anything, there are recommended doses, just type in recommended dose for probiotic for children. My friend started the kirkmans chewable and he's adult, after taking a double dose, twice a day, 4 tablets, twice a day for a couple weeks, he broke out in heavy sweats at work, I told him to back off and it went away. So I do think they can be too much is taken too much like he did................ Guest guest
I consulted a nutritionist about this issue because after my three year old was finally having normal bowel function it turned to explosive diarrhea and the only thing he was taking was probiotics. He also suffers from terrible bloating. She said probiotics can cause either in excessive doses or if it is a strain they are sensitive to. We switched to try a new one to see if it makes a difference. > > > > > > > > From: kellyocee <kellyocee@ ..> > > > > Subject: how many kirkman's chewable pro-bio wafers > can > > > you give a day? > > > > To: miralax@yahoogroups .com > > > > Date: Monday, December 1, 2008, 10:23 AM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > my son is 3. i have been giving him one per day, but > wondering if > > > that > > > > is not enough. is it possible to overdose on probiotics? > > > > > > > > thanks, kelly > > > > > > > > > >
Guest guest
my son is 3 and i have been giving him 2 kirkmans wafers per day since last monday. he pooped on the potty five times this week, including yesterday, which was diarrhea, so i am going to cut back to 1 tablet per day and see how that goes. i do believe it has helped him, but i think now that he has had enough to repelenish his system and i should back down on the dose. thanks for your info. what probiotics did you use? which ones are you switching to? thanks, kelly > > > > > > > > > > From: kellyocee <kellyocee@ ..> > > > > > Subject: how many kirkman's chewable pro-bio wafers > > can > > > > you give a day? > > > > > To: miralax@yahoogroups .com > > > > > Date: Monday, December 1, 2008, 10:23 AM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > > my son is 3. i have been giving him one per day, but > > wondering if > > > > that > > > > > is not enough. is it possible to overdose on probiotics? > > > > > > > > > > thanks, kelly > > > > > > > > > > > > > > >
