Guest guest
We dont use the citrate daily, more as an as needed supplement. Our gastro said that the citrate form can be acidic and not to over use. He was referring to the large dose cleanouts with the liquid form but im sure any form of citrate could be acidic. But also in saying this im thinking if this has been used for months and the symptoms just started most likely it is not the citrate. But consider using less frequent. A viral or bacteria issue can cause the stomach burning(could he be describing nausea/indigestion/pain?). To sooth the stomach if hurting/burning sensation consider aloe vera juice. Jennie<>< Subject: burning tummyTo: miralax Date: Saturday, November 29, 2008, 7:02 AM Does anyone know if an everyday does of mag citrate for several months can cause a “burning tummy” sensation? My 10-year-old has had this sensation since Wed at 4:30. It came back Thurs and Fri and has not gone away since then. I’ve treated with milk and nux vomica (a homeopathic remedy). Neither has helped. I’m wondering if he has heart burn (and where it would come from?? His diet has not changed –even with the holiday) or if it’s something with the mag citrate. I don’t know why I think mag citrate, but it’s in my head for some reason. He cries over the pain. It’s not like him to complain, let alone cry from pain. Guest guest
Thanks, Jennie. I will try the aloe. I was wondering if that might work. Mag citrate is the ONLY thing that will make him go on a regular basis – about every couple of days. He gets a ½ t. daily. Until I find something else, I feel I have no other choice. I’ll let you know if the aloe is successful! Guest guest
I have had two kids with reflux and yes citrate can do that. What helps my kids is the chewable acidolphilus from wallgreens. It works for her all of the time, if it doesnt then we need to move to a prescription. You can also try Mylanta supreme, make sure it is supreme, no aluminum, didnt work for my kids but it does work for many, it should be alkalizing and shouldnt interfere with the constipation. This is magnesium oxide and calcium. Also Tums can be helpful. I have had the best luck with the acidolphilus. I would take that seriously he little tummy is probably raw and you may need to give him an antacid for the pain, you would have to talk to your doctor but there is a new chewable pepcid on the market. The nux vomica only seems to work when the acid is very mild. Milk might only be bringing temporary relief to the acid problem and might be making it worse. Baking soda 1/8 teaspoon in water is also a very mild antacid. Good luck. Guest guest
I think it can be irritating. Are you using Natural Calm? I only give it two or three times a week and not everyday so we don't get tummy upsets over it. Guest guest
Digest Gold, or other good enzymes helps a lot with reflux. Guest guest
We did use Nature Calm with only very limited results. This is the first time he’s had any kind of reaction, if that’s what it is. I’m still not 100% sure it IS the mag citrate, but we’ve talked about mommy instinct before. The aloe seemed to help – will keep with that for now. Guest guest
Good idea! Oh, jeez, why didn’t I think of that? See, this is why it’s good to have a group to ask. Sometimes we’re too close and can’t think clearly. Thank you!
