Guest guest
I use Extra Virgin Olive Oil-and it is a good brand….my daughter likes the taste-McEvoy Ranch Certified Organic. In three days we have seen some MAJOR BM movements in our house with the following : -1tsp Olive Oil before her nap -Increased water/fluids/pear juice (I have her drinking water through a straw at mealtime and she MUST drink it all) -Grapefruit Seed Extract (not liquid) in the tablet form-1-3x a day-we have been using grapefruit seed extract to naturally cause yeast die off-You can’t just give your child GSE 2-3x a day on their first dose-we have built up to this over several weeks but I am not being very consistent -Increased our probiotics and Ester C -Warm Epsom Salt Baths (Natural Laxative) I hope these suggestions help someone. We can’t believe the results around here!!! Guest guest
And I meant to say I am NOW being very consistent-not I am NOT being very consistent! LOL Also-the only reason my daughter drinks water through a straw is she finds this to be fun-she is not a big water drinker but using a straw makes it funner! A great program for people who are looking to clean up their child’s gut, etc. is Diane Craft’s Program- http://stores.diannecraft.org/Detail.bok?no=2 This is not just for behavioral problems-it is a great supplement program that goes week by week and introduces a new supplement in a specific order to help get the gut back on track…she also suggests parents do it w/their kids to see great results. I highly recommend it. We had to switch up the supplements from the brands she suggests to make sure we were getting GFCFSF, etc. but it is worth a try. This is where I learned about Grapefruit Seed Extract and boy has it made a difference for us. HTH <snip)-Grapefruit Seed Extract (not liquid) in the tablet form-1-3x a day-we have been using grapefruit seed extract to naturally cause yeast die off-You can’t just give your child GSE 2-3x a day on their first dose-we have built up to this over several weeks but I am not being very consistent

Guest guest
I am not the Epsom salt expert-but I have heard it works, (it worked for us) and the package says natural laxative (my dh just buys it at costco I believe-a bunch at a time but you can get it just about anywhere) I pour about 1-2 cups in the bath at night for a warm bath and have my daughter soak in it for a good 20-30 min. I have also heard it releases toxins in the body… I don’t know anything about this site but here is some info you could read up on and do your own research…..we don’t ever drink it or use it any other way than in the bath….warm baths are also supposed to help but the added Epsom salts (magnesium sulfate) is what has done more for us than just the bath water itself. http://www.puristat.com/constipation/epsomsalt.aspx From: miralax [mailto:miralax ] On Behalf Of ktjackson421@... Guest guest
In my case - the mainstream docs NEVER even considered or suggested gluten intolerance/Celiac. The " testing " that I went through was all in vain - I had blood tests done and at the time, when the doc said " Everything checks out just fine. You're perfectly healthy " - I took it at his word. But recently, when I went back to see what the heck they looked for back then, I found it was only a typical " blood panel " (e.g., cell counts, hematocrit, etc. - I guess just to make me think they were doing " something " ). Despite my GI complaints, never did any GI related testing. I had a few other tests for recurrent sinus infections (e.g., head scan to look at my sinuses) and headaches (all of which I now know to be food intolerance related... I tried eating some cheese a few days ago for the first time in almost 2 years and an almost migraine set in within half a day, and the next two days I had " stuffy " /congested ears and sinuses) Anyway, for me, my search for answers to my issues was taking place about 20 years ago when my GI system was a wreck and the doctors told me nothing was wrong based on those simple blood testing (e.g., cell counts, hematocrit, etc. - nothing specific for GI issues) and history. I was told I was too stressed out and too many commitments/activities and just not taking good care of myself. I was running, exercising a LOT, eating fairly conscientiously (for a college student at least) and actually taking pretty good care of myself - but after a few doctors told me the same thing, i acquiesced and decided it was all in my head, that my body/GI tract was just " how I am " and I never questioned it again - until my children needed answers. One doctor finally suggested that " maybe " I had irritable bowel (IBS) - but never followed up with that - just wanted to get me out of his office, I guess. Plus, back then, IBS was a pretty " new " concept anyway. I only decided to test myself at Enterolab because I was noticing I felt differently when I started making gluten free food for my family. My oldest son had one positive blood test (e.g., the kind a " mainstream " doc would do) which caused us to try GF for him (he was already casein-free, corn-free, and egg-free - all of which were helping, but the constipation just kept lingering). I tested myself at Enterolab first - then both of my boys. Aside from the antibody testing, we did the genetic testing. One cannot argue the genetic testing. Though the genetic predisposition does not mean a person has developed celiac/gluten intolerance, that combined with positive antibody testing, and a positive response to the diet is all the evidence I need. And there are some mainstream doctors who agree (e.g., Dr. Jay Gordon - in our pediatrics office; a GI doc that a person at another online support group went to also said this). In fact, I would go so far as to say that Dr. Jay gave me the impression that he could care less about any of the testing - but would be content with response to the diet as plenty of reason to avoid gluten and I'd agree with that. (as an aside, he's also long been an advocate of being dairy-free.) I can say that many people seem to come up with negative Celiac/gluten blood testing via the mainstream tests - yet 1) have positive stool tests at Enterolab and/or 2) show a very positive response to the diet. The stool testing is simply much more sensitive. > > > > From: larissaandlana <larissabrady@ ...> > > Subject: So Many Questions! > > To: miralax@yahoogroups .com > > Date: Tuesday, December 30, 2008, 7:46 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi everyone! Guest guest
Epsom salt is magnesium sulfate - and it is thought that the magnesium can be absorbed though the skin during the bath. Some probably gets in orally as well - which may be part of it. Epsom salt actually can be used orally as a laxative but to my knowledge it is NOT recommended for children to take orally. Soaking in Epsom salt bath seems to be enough to gently help. It's also thought to help detoxify the body. Guest guest
, ever since I went off the things entero lab told me to I am very sick and have lost 15 pounds so I am going to try slowly going back and see what happens. I haven't heard too many success stories with entero lab but I am going to try as I am slowly going down hill. marg> > From: larissaandlana <larissabrady@ ....>> Subject: So Many Questions!> To: miralax@yahoogroups .com> Date: Tuesday, December 30, 2008, 7:46 PM> > > > > > > Hi everyone! Guest guest
Hi Marg! Haven't heard from you in a while - good to 'see' you here! I'm sorry to hear that you are still not feeling better. I'm not really here to advocate for Enterolab - but mention them in the interest of hoping it may help others. I can say that using their testing set us down a path that has led to great improvements for both boys and myself - that we would not have committed a lifetime to without the lab results from the stool tests we did through Enterolab. (we may have dabbled with gluten-free for a while, but perhaps not realized the commitment we needed to make without the data from the lab tests in front of us.). I know there are many others who feel this same way as well. (e.g., there are many at several of the other Yahoo! groups who have found Enterolab testing to be invaluable to their health improvements.) My husband actually just sent his test and is waiting for results. After of year of being 'mostly' gluten-free with the boys and I, I guess he's realizing how it's affecting his body as well. (it's not just coincidence, he does have a genetic predisposition to gluten intolerance and Celiac.) I'm sure many mainstream practitioners are not aware of or impressed with the testing. IMHO this is due to a lack of knowledge and scientific understanding on their behalf. As a scientist, I see no reason not to accept the stool test as a valid, if not more sensitive, assessment of the levels of certain IgAs. I just took my 2 yr old to the pediatrician today, and she seemed perfectly satisfied with the Enterolab results (as did her partner, Dr. Jay Gordon, when we saw him while she was on maternity leave). She knows my frustrations with the lack of knowledge on this topic (gluten intolerance and Celiac) in mainstream medicine and she reiterated how SLOW mainstream medicine is to catch up with certain advances. She said it was just in the last 5-10 years that the blood antibody testing for Celiac became more commonly used in mainstream medicine and that she didn't even learn about it in medical school (btw, I think she finished residency in 2005, so she was in medical school not that long ago). So imagine how long it might take to bring stool testing to the mainstream world. Of course, this does not address your own troubles and I am not really qualified to do that. What I can say is I do know that for myself, and for many others I know either in person or in other online support groups, there seemed to be a " detox " period after going gluten free. I felt great much of the first month of being gluten free, then just terrible for a few months. A year into it, I still feel like my body is adjusting, recouperating. I suspect I have some adrenal and thyroid issues (very common in undiagnosed Celiac (and I suspect in gluten intolerance as well)) - that I'm trying to work on with supplements. As you know, I'm not a physician, but my guess is that, after so many years with these undiagnosed food intolerances a whole cascade of other issues has occurred. I wish you had a good naturopath or holistic practitioner who could help identify and work through this with you. best, > > > > From: larissaandlana <larissabrady@ ...> > > Subject: So Many Questions! > > To: miralax@yahoogroups .com > > Date: Tuesday, December 30, 2008, 7:46 PM > > > > > > > > > > > > > > Hi everyone!
