Guest guest
Amazing! 1. Spinal Surgeons weigh in on ACOEM Workers Comp Guidelines: http://www.spinalinjection.com/pdf/newsletters/isisnewsletterv6n1.PDF Pg 48 " In various ways, and in different places, the ACOEM Guidelines for Chronic Pain transgress or offend the principles articulated above. The following constitutes a list of immediate examples, and is not intended to be comprehensive. " 2.. OSHA/ACOEM Alliance: http://www.osha.gov/dcsp/alliances/acoem/acoem.html " Through the Alliance, OSHA and ACOEM will use their collective expertise to help advance a culture of prevention while sharing best practices and technical knowledge to promote safe and healthful working conditions for workers, especially in the area of reducing and preventing exposure to ergonomic hazards. In addition, OSHA and ACOEM will reach out to the College's members who may benefit from mentoring or guidance in developing, implementing, and/or improving ergonomic programs. The Alliance's goals include: " 3. Charlotte Observer, ACOEM claiming to be the victims. http://www.charlotte.com/739/story/587539.html " Our members feel they are being methodically pressured ... to under-treat and mistreat, " said Dr. McLellan, president of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. " ...This is a grave ethical concern for our members. It's a grave medical concern. " ...McLellan, an associate professor at Dartmouth Medical School in New Hampshire, says he thinks employers are " vastly underreporting " the extent of workplace injuries..... " Players in the system may willfully produce records that don't reflect reality, " he said in an interview. 4. Press Release, HELP Committee Senators Murray and Kennedy http://help.senate.gov/Maj_press/2008_04_22_a.pdf " I want the GAO to take a good hard look at injury and illness reporting because frankly, it's a system that seems all too easy to game, " said Senator Murray. " In my hearings and in discussions with occupational health experts, I have heard about the shadowy practice of underreporting and I think it's time to shed some light on this process. " 5. ACOEM with fingers in cookie jar: http://www.congress.org/congressorg/issues/alert/?alertid=11298121 & content_dir =ua_congressorg " With the Charlotte Observer helping to bring the matter to greater light, it is commendable that some occupational physicians are now speaking out about the undue influence industry has over their practices. However, it is neither commendable nor accurate for the multi-million dollar " non-profit " , ACOEM, to portray themselves as the victims of industry. The fact of the matter is, insurers and employers cannot establish treatment protocols for injured workers without the involvement of occupational medical associations and physicians.
