Guest guest
Welcome................ I would strongly advise you not to do the hospital cleanout..............they put a GI tube down their throat into their stomach using GoLytely (the same chemical as Miralax, PEG) In some cases, the nurse misdirected the tube into the lungs and now will have permanent damage as it is a liquid plastic. See the FDA adverse reactions below.................you need to scroll from left to right to see the age, dose, etc. http://health.groups.yahoo.com/group/miralax/files/ Yes MOM works well for constipation, there is servious side affects from Miralax, even more so, when it stays in there don't worry about anything being addicting, the need a little help until they can figure it out, the big worries are with the permanent damage from any dose of Miralax............... Kirkman labs makes a chewable probiotic that helps with constipation as it has xylitol in it and works as a laxative so you get both in one...............a kid friendly chewable that has been the only thing that's worked for us.....................and many others on here http://www.kirkmanlabs.com/ViewProductDetails@Product_ID@184@Product_Group_ID@... Jeanie Subject: Need advise Please!! Totally Backed up.To: miralax Date: Sunday, December 28, 2008, 6:59 PM Hi there. I am new here. My 7 year old daughter is currently backed up and nothing has been working to clean her out. I have tried enemas, Magnisium citrate and of course the dreaded Miralax. Here's her history....She was on the Miralax when she was 5 because she held it. But after a year we gave it up. She since has always complained of stomache pains and we always told her to just go poop. It wasn't until 2 months ago that we got into the mess we are into today. She went to the ER for stomache pains and they said that she was full of poop. Long story short, we did lots of doses of Miralax with enemas and I thought we were cleaned out. Then I put her on Miralax every day and she was going twice a day. I thought everything was fine. Then.. a couple of weeks ago, she is in severe pain after eating and having reflux. An xray reveals that she is even more backed up then in November even though she has pooped everyday. Anyhow.. I took her to a GI specialist who said to use mag citrate for 2 days and it will clean her out good and then she should be on Miralax for 6 months. Well the mag citrate didn't work even after 2 attmepts. (some poop came but not enough) I have since done a lot of research and have decided not to use Miralax because I am concerned about the side effects. We need to solve 2 problems:1) Any idea on how to get her cleaned out. DR said we would maybe need to do a colon cleanse in the hospital. UGHH!2) Keeping her regular. Will MOM work as a substitute instead of daily Miralax or is it addicting? I think if we get her cleaned out, we should be able to manage this a little better. I guess she will need months of something to retrain and heal her colon and work on toilet training. I would love advise PLEASE!!!!!! !!!Also.. once we get her cleaned out, I will start Probiotics and kid calm. I am afraid to start too much too soon. Thanks everyone!! Guest guest
Cody was sooo constipated a few months ago, he buckled over in screaming pain for over an hour, he was at a friend's house. We rushed him to the ER, they thought it was his apendix, they did an ultrasound and could not see the apendix because he was too full. They did a cleanout, enema...milk of molasses. He was told to hold it for as long as he could (they didn't know he is the king of "hold it"), about 45 minutes later they couldn't believe he was still holding it. They told him to go when ever he could. He got up and went to the bathroom, he went and went and went, he even threw up (looked like poop too). Instant relief. We went home 30 minutes later, he we backed up severly, it wasn't his apendix after all. Guest guest
This buckling over was what my daughter was doing which is why we ended up in the ER too….BUT she had gone to the bathroom BEFORE we left! I was worried about her appendix as well….the xray came back-compacted! They sent us home to do milk of magnesia but it really did NOTHING…..and that is how I ended up here J My daughter has also complained in the car of being about to throw up-when she gets home she will go to the bathroom and have a bm and feels better-not nauseated anymore…..so it makes me think she must be backed up. - From: miralax [mailto:miralax ] On Behalf Of deanna gentry Sent: Monday, December 29, 2008 2:30 PM To: miralax Subject: Re: Need advise Please!! I give him olive oil (1-2 tsp at bedtime), benefiber 3x daily (he needs the bulk, his colon is stretched out do to years of constipation) , fresh chopped garlic every 2-3 days, lots of watery foods (cucumber, watermelon, cantelope, etc...), Just tonight I started him on flaxseed (2 tsp in danactive yogurt). Lately we kind of got away from the watery foods and he is currently backed up. His constipation in ongoing and needs consitent attention, I don't know what I was thinking.
