I have a question, I keep reading about tetherered cord surgeries, has

anyone had one by Dr. Oro. Does he do them too? I've just been hearing about

the Dr.s in NY. Also, why do people have a lot of CSF leakage as a result.

Is there a way to prevent that. I have a consultation scheduled with Dr. Oro

for the end of the year.

Kathleen's response:

I believe Dr. Oro does do TCS surgery. We had a member post about it

recently.

The question is more, do other doctors perform Occult Tethered Cord surgery.

I will ask this to all of our experts when I send questions.

As for leaks, our brain and spinal cord are wrapped in three layers called

Pia, Arachnoid, and Dura. The Dura is the outermost layer. The dura is as

thin as Saran Wrap. In my case it had been compressed for so many years, it

was more like cheese cloth.

Just driving a suture into the dura can cause a leak. There are many sutures

that help hold the patch in place.

Some surgeons have different techniques that help, and various glues are

being tested to see if they will help.

Here is a link discussing the various meninges.

TCI also has a relatively new video on TCS. I recommend everyone listen to

it.

Dr. Oro also has a section on TCS in his Frequently asked questions:
