Hi nne-I live in Queens and it's nice to talk to a fellow New Yorker! I wish I had something that could really help-I think everyone will say MOVE! Is that really not an option? If not I think keeping the windows WIDE open all day and night is a must. I know its cold here but I've remediated my mold for the last year and I couldn't move either so I just ventilated like crazy, wore my masks and stayed out of the house alot. I do have my " safe " room-which is my bedroom. It's the furthest away from the mold and with the door always closed and a very powerful air purifier running all the time the room is bearable. My electricity bills are sky high but at least I can breathe here. You can get mold test kits at Home depot and they do work really well. Stay in the room with the best results. Your doctors sound OK - at least they listen to you! good luck, Surella >
Guest guest
nne, You sound like me, as sick as anyway! Have you been to neurotoxins.com & MoldHelp.com sites? Maybe you could print the info out on them & show them to your landlord. There are others on the site that have had to deal w/a landlord that won't listen, but hopefully that will give you a start. Guest guest
Hi ne, I'm new here. You have a lot going on at one time! Of course your landlord doesnt think its a big deal they dont want to spend the money fixing it. Check your lease and find out what your options are.Get someone to help you read and understand it if the landlord wont do what there supposed to. I would understand what your options are for the mold issuse anyway. The landlortd will probably take the cheapest way out instead of the right way most likely so you may want to get legal help if it doesnt sound like they're trying to really resolve things properly with your best interest in mind. I would move to a clean place you have too much going on now!It wouldnt hurt to get second opinions on all of your diagnoses for instance the mold could have been causing a lot of them.Get a good air purifier and even a respirator at home depot ( your LL may pay for them to avoid making you sicker)if you have too. Find out where the source is coming from and try to isolate it if possible until you leave or its fixed. Be careful sometimes the chems they use to kill the mold are even worse than the mold as I found out from personal experience.Take one step at a time- clean air & environment, drink lots of water like spring water not tap,eat healthy- organic, take vitemins and healthy supplements, go see Alternative and MD's and start treatments! It will all come together for you!!!! There are a lot of super knowledgeable people here so keep asking for help and you will get it it!!! Good luck, Bob > > HI, i live in Staten island, part of NYC. i just tested positve for > stachybotrys atra iga. Guest guest
hi fellow new yourker! i am going to move. i am paying more in rent right now then the going rate. i am just hoping that that the mold tests come back positive from the mold busters she hired because i will have to sue her for the cost of the move. i pay 1300 for a 2 bedroom with no washer/dryer (i know thats a bargain in queens). i dont have to pay my own heat but and the mold is free but who needs this? we are all sick here. i dont know if i will be jumping from the frying pan into the fire but i will do what i have to do. i opened all my windows the other day and was cleaning all over the place with bleach and she turned off my heat! hello? i wasnt opening the windows to be malicious but i woke up to a house that was 62 degrees. bad enough i am sick - i dont need this. she is sick too. she has all kinds of pains in her body that the doctor says is an auto immune disease. but when i asked her if she got tested she says - " what for? " ugg, just keep your head in the hole in the ground. i am going to start looking around this weekend. my sons girlfriend has an auto immune disease and this has been very bad for her. she lives with us too. just so much work. i hate moving. both my son and his girlfriend were tested this week for the same mold i tested posiive for. so lets hope they come up positive. i did buy that test in the hardware store and have a lovely collection of mold in the dish but its white. dont know what that means. we have to send it out. we might or might not depending on the results of the tests next week, we dont have a lot of extra cash lying around. if i saw some black mold in there i might be more inclined to send it out. what part of queens do you live in. i used to live in ridgwood and maspeth. nne www.Calyxico.etsy.com [] Re: Hi everyone - i am new here > > HI, i live in Staten island, part of NYC. i just tested positve for > stachybotrys atra iga. Guest guest
Hi Bob, i dont have a lease. i can leave on 30 days notice and since this mold incident i can leave tomorrow. we are looking now. i already eat organic and drink spring water. i was going to make an appointment with a nutritionist who happens to be an alternative MD when all this hit me. i am just so tired - i need to get the heck out of here. i am waiting patiently for the results to come back on my families blood work, also on the testing she did on the house. i am also going to landlord tenant court next week - they have some lady there that gives you info about well landlord tenant stuff. i may just get HUD involved. i dont know yet. i called 311 and they suggested i call HUD, 311 suggested i file a complaint but i have to wait until the test come back. blah blah blah. with 311 (nyc help line) it all depends on who answers that phone as to what kind of help you get. trust me my land lord isnt paying for anything. nne
Guest guest
Hi nne, Wow thats great about the month to month lease! Thats one less nightmare to deal with.If you had an anual lease it would have been an problem for you now! I can't tell from what you've said but it sounds like the whole building has trouble with mold? If it was just your place and it was a small amount say in a bathroom or around a window and that was it then maybwe there would be a consideration to get the LL to fix it and keep enjoying your low rent. But if its everywhere and a problem in the building then maybe its time to get out!!??Just remember to really check where you move to real well and maybe get some help from a qualified mold inspector or if thats not an option maybe someone you know who is a contractor with some knowledge of mold and or water intrusion issues can guide you.I have been a Real Estate Broker my whole life and have seen how Landlords and owners will just hide water damage and mold in a home by covering it up and concealing it with paint, stucco, plaster drywall or what ever it takes to it is not visable. So do your homework ask and talk to tenants above and around your potential unit about mold water leaks, costruction problems & talk to the owners, property managers, contractors for the building you are considering. The last thing you need is to move right into another moldy place now that you have been exposed to Stacky and may be more hypersensitive to mold now. I also breathed it and it wasnt a pleasant experience as I have still have health problems from my exposure. Guest guest
nne, Since I dont prctise Real Estate in NY I dont know they they handle it here.In Fla. there are mold disclosures and Property disclosures that an owner must fill out that discribe any building or property defects and if there has ever been a mold issue on purchase rentals can be differnt.Ive heard that NY is more tough as it relates to mold??!!So maybe contact a Realtor or an agent your know and trust to help guide you with these questions and helping you find a great place!! Thanks, Bob > > Hi Bob, i dont have a lease. i can leave on 30 days notice and since this mold incident i can leave tomorrow. we are looking now. i already eat organic and drink spring water. i was going to make an appointment with a nutritionist who happens to be an alternative MD when all this hit me. i am just so tired - i need to get the heck out of here. i am waiting patiently for the results to come back on my families blood work, also on the testing she did on the house. i am also going to landlord tenant court next week - they have some lady there that gives you info about well landlord tenant stuff. i may just get HUD involved. i dont know yet. i called 311 and they suggested i call HUD, 311 suggested i file a complaint but i have to wait until the test come back. blah blah blah. with 311 (nyc help line) it all depends on who answers that phone as to what kind of help you get. trust me my land lord isnt paying for anything. > > nne >
