Some students at Locust Grove Elementary School in Orange were moved

to a new classroom on Monday.

That's because mold was found in two of the school's mobile units.

Orange’s superintendent says water damage is the cause of the mold

situation at Locust Grove.

Mold was behind the walls of two mobile units, but because of some

holes in the walls, it's now able to be detected by the air quality

test.

“I find that pretty gross. I wouldn't want my kid going to an

elementary school where there's mold in classrooms,†said

Rollins, Concerned Parent.

That’s why the school has a hired a clean up crew to fix the

situation. The crew will remove paneling and or sheet rock, and then

they'll deep clean behind the walls.

" We feel good about the fact that we've done what we need to do to

have an environment that the air quality level is in the acceptable

range as it should be,†said Dr. Crawford, Superintendent,

Orange County Public Schools.

The school wants to make sure this doesn’t happen again, that's

why they are talking about implementing an air quality management

plan.

This means the classroom temperature would be regulated and lights

would be required to stay on in certain areas of the mobile units.

“Those simple things are the kinds of things we're going to be

monitoring more than quote unquote indoor air quality. We'll be

monitoring the environment to make sure that the moisture levels,

light and that kind of thing are in the levels that are going to

help prevent it,†said Crawford.

The school is unsure when the water damaged happened, but they know

that it's not recent.

Some of the mobile units have been at the school for 8 years. When

they were brought to the school they were used, so there's a

possibility there could have been preexisting mold conditions.

So far, there haven’t been any reported illnesses due to the mold

situation.

All mobile units used by Orange County Schools were tested, but

Locust Grove was the only school that had any units with mold.
