Guest guest
Lee over use/too much cortisone causes irreparable damage tot the bones-- eventually causing brittle crumbling and calcification. It is irreversible damage, and no matter how much clacium you take in supps or foods etc, it cannot stop the damage caused. Its certainly well documented, and not hard to find more about. They suggest to take 600mg caltrate up to 50 yro and double that for women in menopausal years etc, so if you had been on caltrate a long time, or had sufficient calcium from an early age then the benefits are of course a little better than those who didn,t. I was taking caltrate for 10 years before hysterectomy-- so from round 35 yrs. However when had frozen shoulder etc and the use of cortisone injections, it was on the 3rd injection that docs went off to discuss something, and came back with the director and the head of hospital clinical side of things who all together met with us to say, they were very concerned -- because looking back into my files- there had been far too many steroid treatment, and prior cortisone therapies for other things in past-- most of which at the time were related to asthma, bronch etc. They didn,t do the 3rd shot, they decided to meet with my R/A crew and come up with the method they ended treatment wit epidural into shoulder etc. When we were called back we were advised we had every right to sue the 2 hospitals who had been treating me etc.and they would understand if I did. They then went on to say, I was in grave danger of ending up in a wheel chair within 10 years, and that one fall or even bad slip, could be the one that would put me into a wheelchair soon and because of the over use of cortisone and steroid treatments in my life-- by then would have been 48, I am almost 61. This is again one of the reasons I began looking for help , in doing things more holistically etc. Diet and water and exercise id the real key to keeping bones the best we can when already damaged--zinc, fish oil caps- omega 3s, & the B 6 ,12 etc. Women's own- complex is ok for people who get in early too Diet for R/A, for fibro, for most and supplements-( a few) . supplements only when been really unwell or foods not avail or too expensive etc. (for those without these issues we are discussing here) Many people with osteo get some benefits from taking glaucasamine products, but osteo isn,t any where like R/A, which is blood orientated- in the blood. NOT just the bones. Osteo is bones first. Most people doing probiotics do so for stomach . BUT-- unless health diet- and the probiotics, then we are at risk of not enough nutrients, not enough fibre etc, thus bowel/ gut/ liver problems, and thus less resistance to infections. Vigilance again is so important and really understanding all we take, then all we eat and drink.-- because our lives do depend on someone knowing lots, and that’s usually US. As for the doc who cannot understand why throat , sore ribs etc are a symptom, cos they don,t fit in with bronch-- well another doctor is desperately needed NOW. This doctor is either lazy, incompetent or just plain NOT interested in you enough to learn about his patient. Sorry but we all know, that inhalers, nebulising, respitory, sinus etc are all in the chain associated with most chronic lung diseases of sorts. Post nasal drips and muccous too. Please go find a new doctor quickly. Sandy
