Guest guest
Linette- you reminded me we had a lil cat we named Fea once...haha At 2...I would imagine she would transition to another kitty well............if I were in your shoes, I think I would give it a try!! Especially when it's caused her so much happiness and reason to sing and talk, etc!! Good luck! Angel In a message dated 3/9/2008 5:15:06 P.M. Aniza doesn't talk a lot, but when she does talk, sing or laugh hysterically, it's usually about Feo. Feo is a stray cat that showed up at our house about 6 months ago. At first the kids were feeding him everyday and then before I knew it, they had given him a bath and named him Tio Feo (that means uncle ugly). This is how bad he looked when he showed up. Well, all that explained, since then he has become her best friend. She talks about Feo, her songs are about Feo and everything revolves around Feo. Feo fell ill a few weeks ago and has progressed to what I believe is a no turning back situation. We've consulted a vet and their advice is to put him down since they believe he has feline leukemia. To say the least, I am very upset. 1st because he's very loving with Aniza. He even lets her ride him around in her doll stroller. And 2nd because I love animals and just the thought of dropping him off for his death tears me apart. Sorry for the long whine, but I needed someone to talk to about this. Since noone else seems to think it's a big deal. I mean who will occupy Aniza's time after he's gone? Should I get another black cat and name it Feo? I am at a total loss. Help, I can't get over FEO! Guest guest
Linette - I have to say our cat is 's best friend, he is mean to everyone else but he adores her. Not that he is that mean but he likes his space and does not like it when it is invaded. adores Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, and she has even learned to say his full name - as opposed to us who just call him Rikki but I would let Aniza know that Fio is very sick and hurts, and you want to help him stop the hurt - after he is gone and Aniza has time to grieve - it could be a week, could be 6 months but she will talk about another cat then you should get her another kitten. You can go to the SPCA and let her pick out her kitten ;-) Darlene - Mom to (9 with cat) and (11 with dog) > Linette- > > you reminded me we had a lil cat we named Fea once...haha > > At 2...I would imagine she would transition to another kitty > well............if I were in your shoes, I think I would give it a try!! > Especially when > it's caused her so much happiness and reason to sing and talk, etc!! > > Good luck! > Angel > > > In a message dated 3/9/2008 5:15:06 P.M. Guest guest
Wow! The loss of a pet IS a big deal -- especially for a little one who cannot yet understand that death is a part of life and who DEFINITELY won't understand why Feo is not around. Geez, I cried my eyes out when -- at the age of 21 -- I had to make the decision to put my cat down. Mr. even wrote a book about losing a pet. I believe the book is either entitled " When a Pet Dies " or " When You Lose a Pet. " I'd say you could go to www.pbs.org and link to " Mr. ' Neighborhood " and find it. If not, I'm sure all the big online booksellers have it. Good luck getting through this crisis. A. Special Educator Simon Kenton HS 11132 Madison Pk. Guest guest
How sad. It is so hard to lose a beloved pet. Be careful how things are explained to Aniza. We had animals and have had to have a pet put to sleep. We talked to the kids about it, told them about how we didn't want our dog to hurt ect. The kids dealt with it and life went on. Fast forward to my kids out tramping around the forest behind our house. Our daughter who is maybe 7 at the time gets caught near the eye with some barbed wire. We of course take her to the Dr. who sends us to the ER to get x-rays to make sure no metal is left in there, telling us that if there is they will " put Sandy to sleep " to get it out. It never occured to me how she took it. She cried and said she didn't want to go to sleep, and I calmly explained how it does not hurt at all, it is just like going to sleep at night. Poor thing trusted me to take her in there thinking all the while that we might have to " put her to sleep " . Just be aware in the future if Aniza ever needs surgery ect. to be careful how things are explained. Guest guest
Linette, I am sorry to hear about Feo's illness. You were great to give him a family in his last days. It's funny that you mention Aniza and her love for Feo. My daughter is also two she has this super close friendship with our family cat as well. She cant say much but she says cat very clearly and follows him around the house all day saying " meow, meow " . No other words really interest her right now. I think that if I were in your position I would run out and get another cat. Let me know how it all works out. Meow for now, Sandy --- michiganimdsa wrote: > Hi you guys, just needed to vent a little. First, > I'm Aniza's mom. > She's two with MDS.
