Guest guest
Dozens of dwellings damaged April 5, 2008 Durango Herald - Durango,CO* By Dale Rodebaugh Herald Staff Writer http://durangoherald.com/asp-bin/article_generation.asp? article_type=news & article_path=/news/08/news080405_3.htm Ice and snow has damaged more than one-third of the approximately 130 condominiums and townhouses at Cascade Village just north of Durango Mountain Resort. " We had a tremendous snowfall this winter, which created leaks from roofs and decks, " Oppenheimer, the president of the Cascade Village homeowners association, said Friday. " There's a significant number of condos, probably more than 50, that have been damaged. " Several actions are occurring simultaneously, Oppenheimer said. An insurance adjuster is assessing damage, workers are removing damaged drywall, carpeting, insulation and flooring on a limited basis, and plans are being made to test for mold. Once all waterlogged material is removed, a fungicide will be sprayed against potential mold, Oppenheimer said. When the substance dries, a test for mold can occur, he said. Twenty of the damaged Cascade Village units are under contract to Durango Mountain Resort to provide lodging for its visitors, DMR General Manager Hank Thiess said. Thiess said DMR controls an estimated 83 of the total number of units. " The damaged units are out of action, " Thiess said. " They are out of our rental pool until they're repaired. " Thiess couldn't estimate when repair could be completed. Durango Mountain Resort, in addition to controlling about 80 of the 130 units at Cascade Village, also manages the property and provides maintenance.
