Jey, I'm really confused here b/c amino acid's are suppose to help get things moving? wonder why they cause constipation? What is she on the amino acid based formula for? Kirkman chewable probiotic's worked to get things moving for us. They contain xylitol which works like a laxative while replenishing the gut flora. http://kirkmanlabs.com/ProductKirkman/184/1/Pro-BioandChewableWafers/ Shaklee Herblax is all natural and is able to put in apple sauce. http://www.shaklee.com/products.php?sku=20144 This is what worked for

us...............just curious if you discovered the eosinophilic gastrointestinal disease before or after the use of miralax? Jeanie To: miralax Sent: Wed, June 20, 2012 12:30:32 AMSubject: Re: New Here - Miralax Alternatives?

I would also love to hear some suggestions. My 4 year old is on amino acid-based formula, which causes severe constipation. She reacts to mirilax (which is how I found this group, I was trying to find others who didn't tolerate the mirilax, which had been proclaimed "safe for everyone!" by our GI). Because of her eosinophilic gastrointestinal disease, she absolutely cannot do anything that is food based (flax, etc.) We are trying a magnesium supplement in hopes that she tolerates it. The only other suggestion by our GI is mineral oil, and as much as I hate to have her drinking yet another petroleum byproduct, I'm not sure we have many other options.

> Hi friends. Are you as a group or families individually recommending something other than Miralax that has worked to clean-out and/or maintain your child due to constipation? Are Lactulose, flax, any other fiber, omega's etc on the table? I'm brand new to the group and my 5 1/2 year old has been using large clean-out and maintenance doses of miralax for a year. Any advice, recommendations, would be so appreciated.

omg, what is this condition called? Makes me wonder if the enzymes is trying to tell you something (being that if it caused constipation it may be saying it's not what the body wanted?) Here's the amino acid for constipation we were told to use? http://www.shop-orthomolecular.com/store/DigestzymeV.html what is the names of the probiotic's you've tried? Have you tried VSL#3? What's nice about kirkman's is, they're gluten, corn and casein free. They are a company made for special needs. It's my understanding that some people use enzymes to keep drains clean. I'm not a enzyme expert but considering they use them for cleaning drains

and cleaning out the gut, makes me wonder why they'd give to someone with a bowel disease? Help me understand what the condition is and why they suggested this. I've never heard of such a thing? HTHJeanie To: miralax Sent: Wed, June 20, 2012 1:42:42 PMSubject: Re: New Here - Miralax Alternatives?

I've never heard of amino acids doing that. But the formula is only amino acids, no proteins or fiber whatsoever. We knew about the gastro disease first. She was only on the mirilax because of the formula, and only on the formula because of the gastro disease (and because she's allergic to all food.)

We have done high dose probiotics, but they don't seem to help at all. We also can't do xylitol (or any probiotics with inulin/FOS) because of her gastro issues.

Our daughter was allergic to ALL of the amino acid based formula's that the GI swore would fix her- they made her as sick as the Miralax- I went online to find the ingredients to one of the amino acid formulas(not on the can) and about had a heart attack! First ingredient was corn syrup- not exactly a first choice food for good nutrition- the list was very long of all the weird additives and chemicals etc- kind of made my heart skip a beat, and this is from a gal who loves her twinkies! :-)They often go by the parts per million for allergen proteins when quoting they are hypoallergenic. Our Abby tried about 8- either loose, constipated(they just recommended she double the dose of Miralax!), horrid stomach pains, asthma, edema, it upset her kidney

disease...muscle and joint pain, added fatigue.. all the symptoms you just don't normally associate with an allergy and nor do Drs...Between the formula's and the Miralax our Drs and all their good intentions made everything worse. Now with no corn, no dairy, no soy, no gluten, no shellfish, no nuts and NEVER again MIRALAX and a list of other things she is avoiding she is gobs better- no more constipation that cannot be cured quickly with some molasses and lemon juice or other gentle home remedy.Even without vitamins, and a very limited and unfortified or enriched diet, her vitamin levels are finally starting to climb back up- about 4 months into it.I suspect we may be on the extreme end of things, but there are more and more kids popping up with complex GI and reactions to chemicals, preservatives, hormones, and everything else they put in our

food.Don't get me wrong, I would LOVE to have my kraft mac and cheese, or pizza or even a fastfood burger- but she cannot. We hope her gut will heal and we can start adding stuff back. Though, after what we have been through with her, I will never eat without reading the ingredients again. I wish someone who start a "nutrition bootcamp" online- I have a zillion questions and often feel like we are wandering in the dark.. I feel so lucky when I run into folks that can share some good information with us.Diane From: jeanie ward

We tried neocate- it was the one that she had to worst reactions too... but, she is a challenge - she has so many extreme allergies..Anything that has been enriched, fortified or has had vitamins put into it is contaminated one way or another with corn derivatives- Neocate though is recommended for most as the least likely to cause problems.. http://mitochondrialdepletionsyndrome.blogspot.com/ To: miralax Sent: Thursday, June 21, 2012 11:44 AM Subject: Re: New Here - Miralax Alternatives?

My almost-4-year-old takes Neocate formula. You might try that. It is very very expensive, but doctors can write a prescription for it. Any other formula, and the constipation is out of control.
